We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Fund Accountant.
1 Year Contract Role (FTC)
In this role, you will:
- The traditional Accounting & Valuations team has daily, monthly and weekly Net Asset Value valuations with stringent timelines. The team is responsible for performing capital activity bookings, accruals, amortization, yields leading to final generation and validation of Net Asset Value through diagnostic checks, Financial Mainframe Report and post Net Asset Value activities. The team also performs other Monthly & Reporting activities which includes Fee Reviews. Ex‑Dividend Distribution, Trustee Packs and Queries, Regulatory & Client Reporting. The Accounting & Valuations team is responsible functionally across multiple jurisdictions (where applicable) serviced out of Markets and Securities Services Kolkata.
- Participate in and contribute to the implementation of business solutions to eliminate manual processes. Identify and streamline manual processes to enhance operational control. Enable and implement technology upgrades. Lead User Acceptance Testing for the business (as required). Responsible for delivering high-quality pack outputs across multiple Traditional fund portfolios.
- Drive a strong focus on service quality across Traditional fund portfolios. Implement process enhancements and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Primarily responsible for preparing Net Asset Value packs and performing checker activities as required. Escalate exceptions to the appropriate teams to ensure resolution before finalizing the pack. Develop and maintain mutually respectful & successful relationships with internal customers & business partners.
- Responsible for ensuring that all service deliveries are timely, accurate and in line with Performance Level Agreements, agreed standards, client commitments and Business Partners expectations. Maintain HSBC internal control standards including the timely implementation of audit points. Update daily Management Information System/trackers as required by the process. Responsible for ensuring completion of all mandatory trainings as and when required. Capture accurate and right data (ICATs - Information Capture and Tracking System, daily tracker, etc.) for purpose of Management Information System.
- Share process related best practices with the team. Participate in initiatives to promote the application of principles in daily work and support cross-team initiatives. Perform additional responsibilities as required by the Supervisor to support the on-going management and development of the division. Engage in the project / support-related activities as they arise. Conduct trainings/cross-training for existing and new staff.
- Adapt to different working environments while collaborating with global counterparts. Be flexible to adopt in different working environment with counter parts across the globe. Demonstrate Group Values and Principles in all professional interactions. Be flexible to work in shifts and accommodate additional business requirements as needed. - Interface with all relevant Markets and Securities Services departments and HSBC global offices as required. The individual will have to complete all the activities of the assigned funds within the set time limit and ensure that the accurate pack is delivered to the stakeholders within the Performance Level Agreement. Ensure timely follow up on the open & outstanding issues that hinder the valuation. Ensure, Escalation Matrix is followed as per agreed between Business Partners and Markets and Securities Services Kolkata.
- Undertake/participate in projects for improvement in delivery quality and/or timeliness. Identify and reduce manual processes for enhanced operational control. Support and implement technology up gradation. Continually raising the risks that have been identified / observed in department processes and procedures. Support audit process and recommendations on a timely manner. Perform the fund’s activities correctly as per the Standard Operating Procedure, Checklist and controls.
To be successful, you will:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other qualifications relevant to the accounting/finance industry. Graduate/CA (Chartered Accountant)/ ICWA (Institute of Cost and Works Accountants)/ CS (Company Secretary) / PGDBM (Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management)/MBA (Master of Business Administration) in Finance or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst). Additional qualifications related to the financial industry will be preferred.
- 0-2 years of relevant/accounting work experience.
- Good knowledge of Capital Markets and Financial instruments. Basic knowledge of end to end product and process, multiple market and regulations. Strong grasp of accounting principles and fundamentals. Knowledge of derivatives instruments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Highly organized and detail oriented. Ability to prioritize and adjust workloads based on changing circumstances and meet strict deadlines.
- Basic understanding of the End to End Fund Accounting Model. Basic knowledge of custody, brokerage, depository, investment accounting, mutual funds and reconciliations.
- Awareness of operational risk scenarios associated with the role and the ability to act upon identified risks. Expected to maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points, as well as addressing issues raised by external regulators.
- Expertise in accounting. Prior experience in custody, brokerage, funds services, or the depository industry.
- In-depth understanding of end-to-end product and process workflows, multiple markets, and regulations within the fund services industry. Proficiency in accounting applications used across the industry. Comprehensive knowledge of the Net Asset Value process lifecycle.
