Job title: Associate Director, RC AI & Analytics
- Regulatory Compliance ensures adherence to applicable regulations and standards by setting the policies which cover HSBC’s regulatory requirements and mitigate conduct and reputational risk issues. The team strives to remain ahead of the regulatory change agenda and ensures the business understands the implications and is prepared for change. It monitors how the Global Businesses and Functions manage their responsibilities with regard to complying with the regulations and helps resolve compliance deficiencies.
- Reporting to the Global Head of Regulatory Compliance AI & Analytics or a senior delegate, this role is part of the RC AI & Analytics management team.
- Operating within the Group Chief of Staff function for Regulatory Compliance, RC AI & Analytics is responsible for data science capabilities across the RC function globally.
- The role holder will be responsible for modelling and analytic controls covering design, development, implementation, optimization and validation.
- The role holder may hold globally mandated model risk roles including Sponsor, Owner and Developer.
In this role, you will:
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)
- Drive attainment of functional/functional unit results
- Responsible for ensuring the development and deployment of bespoke analytical products, services and solutions to help the Regulatory Compliance function identify, measure and mitigate emerging regulatory risk.
- Supervise and operate L1 controls for Model Risk Management related to Regulatory Compliance globally.
- Perform periodic Control Monitoring Assessments (CMA’s)
- Promote a culture of data driven decision making, aligning short term decisions and investments with longer term vision and objectives.
- Contributes to the implementation of the Global AI & Analytics strategy.
- Lead the business in managing regulatory risk in a more effective, efficient and commercial way through the adoption of data science (AI/ML and advanced analytics)
- Empower effective engagements between Risk Stewards and 1LOD, to understand business problems and propose analytical solutions whilst enabling smooth and effective deployment and change.
- Enable and embed change initiatives, identifying and developing new or improved delivery mechanisms.
- Independently perform assignments to achieve stated objectives. Determine and develop approach to solutions.
- Responsible for the delivery of end results and will contribute to planning, finances, budget, and policy development.
- Understand functional risks in own functional area.
- Act as escalation point for complex issues.

- Work with control functions, including CCO, Audit and Independent Model Review (IMR) to ensure the effective operation of the control framework
- Ability to work and co-ordinate with remote sites.
- Work across multiple geographies, cultures and time zones.

- Management responsibilities for a team of professionals, including people, performance, budget, and planning decisions.
- Develop a team of diverse skillsets to develop and enhance models and applications to support risk stewards and address emerging and bespoke risks.

Others
- The role holder is responsible for the identification of Compliance related models as classified by the Group Model Risk standards and ensuring that these are developed and managed in accordance with these standards.
- The role holder should also implement and oversee appropriate controls and governance to any analytical products or services that are classified as non-models.
- The role holder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
- Observe Group FIM/Policy and Standards related to the role.
- Adhere to Information Security Risk and Data Sharing policy.
- The jobholder will adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls relating to all FIMs but specifically Model Risk Management, Information Security Risk, EUC.
- This being a Governance & Enablement Lead role in CoE, it will align to RC CoE Lead. But the alignment might change on real time basis.
To be successful you will:
Functional Knowledge
- Solid understanding of data science principles and techniques including machine learning, modelling, NLP and Generative AI.
- Experience of visualization tools and techniques including Qlik and Tableau.
- Solid understanding of data & architecture concepts including cloud, ETL, Ontology, Data Modelling.
- Experience of using JIRA, GIT, Confluence, Teams, Slack, Advanced Excel.
- Establishing the function as a valued commodity to assist in banks response to compliance risk.
- Responding rapidly to emerging risks and threats and quickly driving to the heart of an issue and finding appropriate solutions.
- Working in a highly matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders with sometimes conflicting objectives.
- Operating within a continually changing environment where priorities and objectives can continually change.
- Managing risk appropriately that can have significant effect on the bank, its customers and the economies and communities that it works in.
- Managing teams and engaging stakeholders across a wide geographic spready, multiple time zones and cultures.
- Keeping the bank compliant and customers data safe in a changing landscape of data sharing legislation.
Experience
- University degree in technology, data analytics or related discipline or 8+ years of relevant work experience in computer or Data Science.
- Understanding of Regulatory Compliance, risks and direct experience of deployment of controls and analytics to manage those risks.
- Experience in Financial Services (experience within a tier one bank) or related industry.
- Knowledge of the HSBC Group structure, its business and personnel, and HSBC’s corporate culture.
- Experience of agile development.

- Have strong leadership and management skills – ability to effectively manage across partners and stakeholders spread across multiple geographic locations where there is no direct line responsibility.
- Have good interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with proven experience working in a matrixed management structure, managing global teams.
