We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist.
In this role as a Tech Lead & Service manager, you will:
Accountable for the end-to-end technical ownership and operational stability of Java-based data ingestion platforms, spanning resilience, monitoring, and production support. Responsibilities include rapid incident resolution, performance and capacity management, cluster patching and upgrades, security and standards compliance, and coaching junior engineers on data ingestion technologies such as NiFi and Kafka.
- Platform & System Management:
Monitor, maintain, and support Java-based applications to meet agreed stability and performance targets, ensuring alignment with technology standards.
Plan and deliver platform maintenance, including patching, upgrades, and configuration management; troubleshoot data pipeline issues to protect data integrity and optimise throughput.
- Incident Management & Resolution:
Lead the detection, triage, investigation, and resolution of production incidents, driving root cause analysis and implementing sustainable fixes.
Run post-incident reviews to capture learnings and control gaps, assign clear owners to actions, and track deliverables through to closure.
- Technical Leadership & Guidance:
Provide technical direction and day-to-day oversight for engineers, coaching on application knowledge, operational excellence, and engineering best practice.
Review code and solution designs, offering constructive feedback and ensuring deliverables meet functional and non-functional requirements.
- SRE (Automation and Tooling) and AI Ops:
Identify repeatable operational activities and build automation (software and scripts) to reduce manual effort, minimise errors, and improve reliability—championing long-term, permanent fixes.
Lead exploration and adoption of agentic AI use cases (e.g., service requests, ticket triage, next-best-action recommendations) to accelerate resolution and improve service outcomes.
- Documentation & Process:
Create and maintain technical and infrastructure documentation, including developing and continuously improving recovery runbooks.
Define Service Improvement Plans with clear accountability, milestones, and governance, ensuring actions are delivered within agreed timelines.
- Continuous Improvement:
Keep current with industry practices and emerging technologies in service resilience, identifying and delivering enhancements to processes, tools, and operating models.
Track, report, and act on key resilience and operational performance metrics.
- Service Operation:
Oversee day-to-day IT service operations, ensuring service requests are handled efficiently and to agreed service levels.
Manage incident, problem, and change processes to support controlled delivery and operational stability.
- Service Reporting and Communication:
Produce and maintain service performance reporting, providing clear visibility of trends, risks, and outcomes.
Communicate service health, issues, and remediation progress to stakeholders, and lead the Ops team to deliver reliable operational performance.
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, particularly in diagnosing and resolving data-centric issues, with the ability to collaborate across platforms and diverse teams in multiple time zones to deliver outcomes.
- Proficiency in Java, Shell, and/or Python, with hands-on experience using Ansible, Git, and Jenkins to enable automation and support reliable delivery.
- Solid understanding of data movement and integration technologies and patterns, including NiFi, Kafka (working knowledge), SFTP, and CI/CD.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their big data services, alongside container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and people management experience, underpinned by strong Agile delivery practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with proven effectiveness in complex global environments.
- Proven experience in incident response and problem management, supported by a strong understanding of ITIL or comparable service management frameworks.
