In this role, you will:

  • The Senior Manager, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Reporting, will work with senior business, functions and finance stakeholders to ensure that Group external ESG disclosures are fair, balanced, understandable, and meet disclosure requirements.  While this role sits within ESG reporting, we are open to candidates from external reporting, regulatory reporting, assurance/controls and governance backgrounds who can develop strong transferable skills.
  • This role is a unique opportunity to work in an area of growing interest to regulators, investors, and the wider external market. Disclosure rules and regulation for ESG topics are evolving globally. There is a need to understand new and changing disclosure requirements, and how these can be best met through Group’s external reporting.
  • As the ESG disclosures have grown in prominence, there has been an increased need for robust assurance and oversight of disclosed ESG materials. Play an active role within the wider ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board) implementation team by coordinating the production of the Group’s external ESG disclosures and driving continuous improvement through proposing ideas and supporting the delivery of process Optimisation and enhancements across ESG reporting.
  • The Senior Manager, ESG Reporting, is responsible for the design, execution and documentation of Group’s disclosure and related controls to ensure consistent, reliable and accurate reporting of non-financial data. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Analyzing and operationalizing the delivery of the new ISSB standards, in the context of Group disclosures, as well as understating and supporting implications at local jurisdictions as ISSB standards get adopted locally.
  • Lead on the delivery of the ISSB standards that are evolving. To start with, the focus will be on implementation of HKEX (Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited) mandated standards, expanding to other standards as and when they get issued.
  • Provide Group oversight of ISSB-aligned subsidiary/local entity disclosures to ensure alignment with Group interpretations and methodologies, consistent metrics and narrative, and timely escalation of material issues.
  • Engage with data DAO (Data Analytics Office) and change FCD (Finance Change Data) teams on the strategic solutions related to new requirements. Input into the consultation responses on ISSB standards by engaging with Group Regulatory Policy Team and other relevant teams. Manage operational aspects of production of the interim and year-end disclosures, including drafting of governance papers
  • Involvement in supporting the wider HSBC ESG strategy. Support on the implementation of other regulations where ESG plays a part (eg. CSDDD (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive ) working with GCOOO (Group Chief Operating Officer). Support/consult/engage with key stakeholders in Group

 

To be successful you will:

  • 10–14 years’ Finance experience in a major institution, with end-to-end ownership of external disclosures and/or regulatory reporting (annual/interim reporting; financial/non-financial disclosures; regulatory submissions).
  • Strong governance, controls and assurance discipline, including regulatory interpretation and robust stakeholder management.
  • ESG/sustainability reporting experience preferred; strong transferable external reporting/regulatory skills also welcomed.
  • Commercial mindset—connects numbers, performance drivers and real-world events.
  • Highly motivated, diligent, collaborative and personable; able to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
  • Project management capability, including designing lean processes and fit-for-purpose governance structures.
  • Strong communication and people skills—able to form, develop and articulate a clear viewpoint with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written skills—creates high-quality slide decks and governance papers for the most senior forums.
  • Strong prioritisation and problem-solving—responds effectively to emerging issues in a complex global organisation.
  • Quantitative degree (qualified accountant ideally); advanced Excel/Word/PowerPoint and fluent written/spoken English; AI tools familiarity/interest a plus.
