We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role Manager - Product Control

Purpose of the role  

Product Control is part of Controllership. Product Control ensures traded products are fair valued, correctly accounted and disclosed with prudent valuations, reported to our regulators. Product control HUB sites support London, New York, Honk Kong, Paris, Ring Fence Bank and Holding entities.

The Product Control team structure is aligned to the Markets trading groups. There are three Business aligned teams for London region (Global Debt Market, Equities and GFX/Market Treasury) and regional teams Hong Kong, Paris, New York, along with Internal Group Reconciliations, MENA and Holding entities. Each team performs P&L reconciliations, Journal Posting and B/S Substantiation for the respective regions in a multi-shift set-up. The role is an individual contributor at a managerial level focused on P&L reconciliation, Journal posting and B/S Substantiation across multiple asset classes. It involves close engagement with stakeholders in the sites and near-shore teams (Krakow and Manila), local team leadership as well as senior stakeholder management in Product Control, Accounting Control, IT, Operations & Change Management. 

In this role, you will:

  • Responsible for ensuring service delivery of Product Control processes as per the group’s Finance Instruction Manual (FIM) reporting requirements, standards set out in agreed SLAs within the HSBC Global Resourcing operating framework
  • Demonstrate an expert understanding of Markets business and processes and effectively drive and manage change, plan business contingency and achieve cross-training
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with In-country teams / Near-shore teams & IT teams, understand and actively engage with stakeholder needs and manage expectations, providing timely and appropriate response to queries and requests
  • Coordinate with the people manager in motivating and managing a team of finance professionals considering attritions, band progression, contingencies and expectations, establish and meet challenging PLAs
  • Observance to Group policies, audit, controls, and compliance requirements including but not limited to declaration of secrecy, data protection act, health, safety and security, information security, clear desk policy, Deliver timely and accurate daily and periodic reporting with high degree of accuracy and auditable controls.
  • Take measures to continually assess the operational risks inherent in the processes, taking account of changing operating procedures, staff movements, legal and regulatory requirements, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
  • Responsible for ensuring BCP (business continuity plan), all SOPs (standard operating procedures) are in place and are documented, agreed and tested as per agreed timelines.
  • Responsible for ensuring Global Resourcing operating framework considering key operational risks (including people & processes) and ways to mitigate.  

To be successful you will:

  • Chartered Accountant or equivalent accounting qualification, MBA (Finance) from a leading management institution with at least 4+ years of experience.
  • Strong accounting knowledge, including exposure to IFRS accounting and experience in Six Sigma/Lean methodology will be an advantage.
  • Experience in managing high end Accounting or Reporting & Analysis or finance and accounting activities.
  • Experience in reconciling & substantiating traded markets products e.g. FX, fixed income, equities and derivatives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Exposure to diverse/multi-culture work environments with strong organization, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Technically proficient in systems and in MS Office, particularly Excel. Knowledge of other platforms such as PC Portal, TLM, DUCO, Cadency and Saracen would be advantageous.
  • Comfortable working in a team which operates across multiple shifts, from HK to NY.
