We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role Assistant Vice President – Product Control
Purpose of the role
Product Control is part of Controllership. Product Control ensures traded products are fair valued, correctly accounted and disclosed with prudent valuations, reported to our regulators. Product control HUB sites support London, New York, Honk Kong, Paris, Ring Fence Bank and Holding entities.
The Product Control team structure is aligned to the Markets trading groups. There are three Business aligned teams for London region (Global Debt Market, Equities and GFX/Market Treasury) and regional teams Hong Kong, Paris, New York, along with Internal Group Reconciliations, MENA and Holding entities. Each team performs P&L reconciliations, Journal Posting and B/S Substantiation for the respective regions in a multi-shift set-up. The role is an individual contributor at a managerial level focused on P&L reconciliation, Journal posting and B/S Substantiation across multiple asset classes. It involves close engagement with stakeholders in the sites and near-shore teams (Krakow and Manila), local team leadership as well as senior stakeholder management in Product Control, Accounting Control, IT, Operations & Change Management.
In this role, you will:
- Observe internal control processes which are in place to maintain data integrity, information security, system and infrastructure access ensuring adherence to all HSBC policies and procedures
- Plan and schedule project activities aligned with the project plan and ensure timely completion of milestones demonstrating the expertise in understanding of Markets business and processes
- Lead, motivate and manage a team of finance professionals responsible for offshore activities of Product Control considering attritions, band progression, sourcing and hiring quality people into the team contingencies and expectations plus act as an individual contributor as & when required.
- Understand and actively engage with stakeholder needs and manage expectations, influence and escalating customer issues in an effective way and take measures for providing timely and appropriate response to queries and requests
- Take measures to continually assess the operational risks inherent in the processes, taking account of changing operating procedures, staff movements, legal and regulatory requirements, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
- Responsible for ensuring BCP (business continuity plan), SOPs (standard operating procedures) are documented, are in place and updated appropriately
- Responsible for ensuring Global Resourcing operating framework considering key operational risks (including people & processes) and ways to mitigate
- Manage Product control processes in accordance with the group’s FIM reporting requirements, establish and meet challenging PLAs
To be successful you will:
- Chartered Accountant or equivalent accounting qualification, MBA (Finance) from a leading management institution with at least 8+ years of experience in managing high end Accounting or Reporting & Analysis or finance and accounting activities, including exposure to IFRS accounting.
- Experience required in people management and team leadership, excellent communication and presentation skills, exposure to diverse/multi-culture work environments with strong organization, time management and prioritization skills.
- Experience in reconciling & substantiating traded markets products e.g. FX, fixed income, equities and derivatives
- Technically proficient in systems and in MS Office, particularly Excel. Knowledge of other platforms such as PC Portal, TLM, DUCO, Cadency and Saracen would be advantageous.
- Knowledge and experience with a programming language (i.e. VBA, Python, SQL, C++, etc), understanding of treasury business, Hedge accounting will all be an advantage
- Experience in Six Sigma/Lean methodology will be an advantage
- Comfortable working in a team which operates across multiple shifts, from HK to NY
