Business: Cross Product Technology

Job ID:43123

Principal responsibilities

  • Architecture & Design Design and evolve the core architecture of AI Markets platforms, including service boundaries, data flows, integration patterns and security controls. Define and document technical standards, reference architectures and best practices for services, data pipelines, APIs and frontends. Evaluate build vs buy, and make pragmatic technology choices that balance speed, robustness and cost.
  • Hands‑on Engineering (Java / Python / JavaScript) Design and implement backend services in Java (or Kotlin) with a strong focus on performance, resilience and observability. Build and maintain Python components for data processing, ML/AI orchestration, and integration with analytics/quant tooling. Develop JavaScript/TypeScript frontends or micro‑frontends for internal web apps and dashboards, ensuring good UX and performance. Own end‑to‑end delivery of features from design, implementation, testing and deployment through to production support.
  • Platform Foundations & Reliability Strengthen the foundations of AI Markets (e.g. common libraries, platform services, shared UI components, reusable data models). Implement best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and reliability (circuit breaking, graceful degradation). Drive improvements in code quality, performance, security, and operational stability across services.
  • Collaboration & Influence (IC)Partner with AI/ML engineers, quants and product teams to translate business and model requirements into robust technical designs. Provide technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews and mentoring of other engineers, without direct line management. Communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, explaining trade‑offs and rationale for architectural decisions.

Knowledge & Experience/Qualifications

  • Strong software engineering background with 8+ years of experience (or equivalent) in designing and building distributed systems.
  • Deep hands‑on experience in:Java for backend services (Spring, Micronaut, or similar frameworks). Python for data/ML workflows, APIs or backend services. JavaScript (ideally TypeScript) for modern web applications (e.g. React, Vue or similar).
  • Proven track record of:Designing and implementing scalable microservices or modular service architectures. Building RESTful or gRPC APIs, integrating with internal/external systems. Working with message queues / event streaming (e.g. Kafka, MQ, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of:Software architecture patterns (layered architecture, hexagonal, event‑driven, etc.). Security fundamentals (auth, authz, data protection, secrets, secure coding). Testing practices (unit, integration, contract tests) and CI/CD pipelines. Cloud‑native concepts (containers, Kubernetes, configuration management).
  • Experience working on AI / ML platforms, model deployment or AI‑assisted workflows.
  • Exposure to financial markets (FX, rates, equities, derivatives, etc.) or experience working with traders/quants.
  • Familiarity with data platforms (e.g. time‑series stores, data lakes, streaming pipelines).
  • Experience in observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Opensearch, Jaeger/Zipkin, etc.).
  • Prior experience in a global organisation with complex technology estates and regulatory constraints.
  • Strong architecture mindset: able to see the bigger picture, identify foundational gaps and propose sustainable solutions.
  • Hands‑on and pragmatic: willing to dive into code, debug complex issues and refactor legacy components where needed.
  • Ownership mentality: treats platforms and services as products; cares about reliability, maintainability and user experience.
  • Collaborative and open‑minded: comfortable working across teams and disciplines, receptive to feedback and alternative viewpoints.
  • Continuous learner: keeps up to date with modern engineering practices, cloud technologies and AI/ML trends.
  • The opportunity to shape the technical foundation of AI Markets, working on high‑impact platforms used by front‑office and control teams.
  • A role with strong technical influence as an IC, without line management responsibilities, where architecture and hands‑on engineering go hand‑in‑hand.
  • Exposure to cutting‑edge AI technologies, data platforms and front‑office use cases in a global markets environment.
