We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist.

Principal responsibilities

• Administer and support RHEL environments (primarily RHEL7/8) across physical, virtual, and container platforms.
• Configure core Linux services (e.g., NTP, DNS, SSH) and support remote OS installation via automation.
• Manage Linux storage: LVM, RAID, filesystem creation/resizing, and integration with SAN/NAS.
• Build and maintain automation and scripting (shell and/or Python) that’s maintainable by others.
• Deliver OS patching and package management, including automation for patching.
• Support and troubleshoot Linux networking (bonding, routing, firewall interoperability), including packet capture analysis.
• Implement and improve configuration management / IaC using Git, pipelines (e.g., Jenkins), and tools like Ansible/Puppet.
• Operate server infrastructure in remote data centres: firmware upgrades, remote builds, and coordinating remote hands.
• Design, test, and implement changes to reduce application/infrastructure latency; collaborate with third-party vendors.
• Configure and maintain monitoring/observability (e.g., Nagios, telegraf, Grafana, Geneos) and use metrics to drive efficiency.
• Perform performance monitoring and tuning, and help resolve production performance issues.
• Work within corporate controls: change control, cyber security, and compliance.
• Produce and maintain documentation (e.g., Confluence) and reusable processes/tooling for other teams.

Knowledge & Experience/Qualifications 

• Linux system administration experience: 3+ years on RHEL7/8.
• Strong hands-on capability in:
• Linux OS configuration (NTP/DNS/SSH)
• Storage (LVM, RAID, filesystem create/resize, SAN/NAS)
• Scripting (shell and/or Python) with maintainable code practices
• Patching & package management, ideally with automation
• Networking (bonding, routing, troubleshooting, firewall interoperability)
• Monitoring setup and metrics-driven operations
• Performance troubleshooting in production

What additional skills will be good to have?

• Broader Linux experience: 5+ years across RHEL6/7/8/9.
• RHCE (or similar certification).
• Remote OS install automation experience.
• Advanced scripting and tooling: strong automation mindset; building reusable tooling for config management.
• YUM repository management and RPM build experience.
• Deep networking expertise: strong OSI-layer understanding, TCP/UDP, familiarity with PTP, and packet capture proficiency.
• DevOps practices: Git, build/release pipelines (e.g., Jenkins), Infrastructure as Code, Ansible and/or Puppet.
• Hardware/low-latency awareness: CPU components, QPI/NUMA, RDIMM, TLB, ultra-low latency NICs.
• Low-latency/co-location domain experience: co-located infrastructure, FX, ECN.
• Linux kernel expertise and tuning skills.
• Knowledge of HSBC internal processes for Linux administration.
