Principal responsibilities

The candidate will collaborate effectively across borders with management and development teams, working under pressure to deliver high-quality solutions. Key responsibilities include understanding business requirements, preparing technical specifications, and developing systems accordingly. The role involves designing, building, and deploying automation and machine learning applications and platforms, while supporting existing solutions and vendor products.

• Collaborate with business teams to interpret requirements, create business design documents, and develop technical specifications.
• Design, build, and deploy automation and machine learning solutions, ensuring alignment with HSBC’s change management and release processes.
• Apply DevOps practices and tools in daily development activities, adhering to HSBC IT engineering standards, and propose improvements for project delivery.
• Work independently on project streams as required, ensuring successful delivery with high quality.
• Maintain technical documentation using standardized templates and work closely with both local and offshore teams for seamless execution.

Requirements

• Core Expertise 
  • Banking Domain Expertise: Proven ability to integrate financial operations with emerging technologies to drive measurable business value and innovation in banking and consumer finance.
  • AI & Automation: Skilled in leveraging AI and intelligent automation to optimize workflows, reduce operational costs, and streamline processes across key business functions.
  • Enterprise Architecture: Expertise in designing scalable, secure, and compliant technical architectures, including cloud-native solutions, CI/CD pipelines, and microservice governance frameworks.
  • Leadership at Scale: Experienced in leading high-performing teams across AI, data engineering, and platform development, delivering transformative solutions that enhance efficiency, service quality, and operational resilience.

• Education: University graduate certificate in IT or equivalent experience.
• Experience: Minimum 8 years of significant experience in software design, development, testing, and relevant IT development.
• Technical Skills:
  • Strong programming capabilities and complex application design & development expertise, including DevOps capabilities.
  • Proficient in Java application and API development, including Java Core, IO, multi-threading, collections, Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Cloud, MyBatis, and microservices. Experience in large-scale microservices applications is preferred.
  • Front-end development proficiency, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, Vue.js, React.js, Angular.js, etc.
  • Experience in scalable, high-performance, secure application architecture and design, as well as automation testing technologies.
  • Database expertise, including PL/SQL and query performance tuning. NoSQL experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Linux-based systems and middleware (WAS Liberty, MQ, Containers such as Kubernetes and Docker). Administration knowledge is a plus.
  • Cloud development experience with external cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Ali Cloud). Ability to design and architect cloud-based applications is a plus.
  • Understanding of DevOps and Agile practices, with experience in CI/CD solutions. Proficiency in DevOps tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, and Terraform, with the ability to set up pipelines using these tools, is a plus.
  • Python and machine learning experience is a plus.
• Soft Skills:
  • Strong communication skills in spoken and written English and Mandarin.
  • A good team player with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently on project streams
