We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Principal Engineer

Business: Enterprise Technology

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery and best-in-class design across agile teams within Finance Technology.
• Support HSBC’s global businesses by providing services across Finance and Treasury domains, enabling management and analysis of large financial data sets and supporting regulatory reporting.
• Emphasize cloud-native and microservice design architecture, coupled with modern data engineering, to handle data at scale while maintaining agility.
• Maintain a hands-on approach, coding at least 60% of the time, and contribute to open-source projects.
• Navigate production incidents, identify root causes, and implement improvements.
• Stay updated with industry shifts and offerings across the full stack, including containers, Kubernetes, cloud, microservices, data lakes, storage, and networking.

Qualifications

• Hands on, passionate technologist – the role expect to be hands on coding at least 60% of the time
• Has one or more for the following – blogs/podcasts about technology, has a GitHub portfolio and contributes to open source
• Risk, Finance and as a plus Investment Banking domain knowledge
• Experience of designing and running highly available systems at scale (50+ micro services) (ex. Trading Systems, Banking apps & services)
• Ability of navigating production incidents and scientifically getting to the why’s of the incident and what can be done to improve.
• Being comfortable working in an area where requirements, design and outcomes might be ambiguous
• Demonstrates a deep understand of one of these technologies Java/Python/Go and Kubernetes/Google Cloud. A T-shaped engineer.
• Ability to follow the industry shifts and offerings across the full-stack including Containers, Kubernetes, Cloud, micro services, data lakes, storage and networking in Cloud environments.
