We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of MCU and Actuarial Support.

Principal responsibilities

Impact on the Business / Function

  • Lead Market Condition Update and lite model processes for IFRS17 reporting, including preparation of market data, technical production support to market scenarios calibrations, review goodness of fit of the proxy liability functions.
  • Provide technical analysis to and manage the IFRS17 reporting tools, including the Market Condition Update model and Planning and Forecast model, ensuring accuracy and punctuality of the reporting deliverables and Financial Resource Planning processes.
  • Produce predictive analytics and economic insights in according to stress testing framework.
  • Provide ad-hoc actuarial advisory and support for change projects within Global Insurance Finance.
  • Ensure full compliance to HSBC policy, control framework, model risk requirements and audit standard
  • Provide subject matter and functional input from offshore actuarial perspective to our wider teams to ensure the effective development of our offshore capabilities.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Work with Global Insurance Entities and Global Insurance Finance collaboratively to produce IFRS17 reporting.
  • Provide subject matter and functional input to onshore Insurance Finance teams as required to support development of actuarial offshore capabilities / hub in GZ.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Play a senior team member role as part of a team of actuaries and developers to provide actuarial and technical solutions to entity actuaries and provide input on offshore resource strategy.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Maintain efficiency of core actuarial processes and controls, and support implementation of compliance policy, control frameworks, and defined procedures.

   

Requirements

  • Qualified actuary with recognised professional body (e.g. IFoA, SOA).
  • Degree holder in Actuarial Science or equivalent technical background.
  • Proven experience in IFRS17 reporting, market consistent valuation, financial reporting or economic capital processes.
  • Proven professional experience in programming and developing actuarial software, preferably in Python, Alteryx and Prophet.
  • Thorough understanding of Insurance products and business models, accounting standards, actuarial concepts, modelling techniques, and regulatory regimes (e.g., Risk-Based Capital).
  • Experience of driving actuarial projects within life insurance companies or consultancy firms.
  • Experience of leading, coaching and developing a team of actuaries and developers.
  • Strong communication skills, and an ability to communicate technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing control and risk requirement, model risk governance and audit process.

   

Candidate with less relevant experience or skills may be offered a lower Global Career Band than stated above.
