We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of IWPB Tech ASP.

Principal responsibilities

Impact on the Business

  • Lead and manage a global engineering cohort of ~100 engineers and associated delivery/ops leads responsible for ASP market applications.
  • Own the resilience, availability and operational performance of ASP applications; accountable for meeting agreed SLAs and minimizing business impact from incidents.
  • Deliver the regional technology roadmap to support product launches, market growth and customer experience improvements; technology decisions will directly influence revenue, client trust and regulatory standing.
  • Understand the markets requirement, drive cost efficiency and commercial outcomes through vendor management, application consolidation and reuse.
  • Leverage AI and emerging technologies to drive engineering innovation and efficiency.

 

Stakeholders – Internal and External

Internal:

  • Global & Regional CIOs, Architecture, Value Stream & Platform leads, Product Owners, IWPB Business Heads, Risk/Compliance, Operations, Finance, HR.
  • Group IT horizontals (IT Security, IT Risk, Design & Application D&A, IT COO) and Global Technology leadership.

 External:

  • Strategic vendors, cloud and platform providers, system integrators and third‑party partners.
  • Regulators, industry working groups and market standards bodies as required.
  • Partner ecosystems and marketplace participants for integrations.

 

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Lead, develop and retain a regional/global engineering team of ~100 engineers across design, development, QA, release and production support.
  • Build an inclusive, high‑performance culture that enables collaboration across multiple jurisdictions and time zones.
  • Represent ASP technology in the global IWPB Tech leadership team to align priorities, share best practice and coordinate global supply of capabilities.
  • Provide performance management, career development and succession planning for senior technical roles.
  • Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
  • Able to manage engineering under the tight budget and time frames.

 

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Ensure technology goals are identified, communicated, documented, agreed and delivered in the most cost-effective manner possible.
  • Identifying key risks, issues and interdependencies and provide appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Supporting audit / independent programme assessments as required
  • Ensure HSBC is not put at any operational or reputational risk.

 

 

Knowledge & Experience/Qualifications

  • At least Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline; advanced degree desirable.
  • Significant senior technology leadership experience (typically 12–20+ years) with responsibility for multi market delivery and operational management of engineering teams (scale ~100 engineers).
  • Proven track record translating global technology strategy into regional market execution and delivering resilient, customer facing financial services applications.
  • Deep technical knowledge across cloud native architectures, microservices, API and Digital platforms, DevOps/DevSecOps, observability and SRE/operations.
  • Solid experience in financial services technology (wealth management, retail banking or asset servicing) and familiarity with APAC regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendors, commercial contracts and regional budgets.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills with experience engaging senior business, risk and regulator stakeholders.
