Principal responsibilities

As a Director of AI Software Development, you will be a key technical leader responsible for executing the transformation of how the group develops software from inception to completion. You will lead and a grow a team of engineers to augment, transform and automate engineering product with AI capabilities that can be leveraged at scale by engineers across the group, fostering an engineering culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Your role will involve collaborating with product managers and cross-functional teams to shape strategy, define goals, and deliver engineering solutions. You'll be instrumental in problem-solving, making critical technical decisions, quality assurance, and evaluating emerging technologies to improve software development processes and outcomes.

Knowledge & Experience/Qualifications

Key Experience:

To be successful in this role you should have proven experience within the Technology sector with knowledge of the following:

• Leading an engineering organisation, recruiting, inspiring and empowering developers with world-class technology, practice, and organisational enablement.
• Transformation of developer products across the software development lifecycle, partnering with existing teams to embed AI within our products, in order to uplift both the engineering experience and productivity of our teams.
• Strong Technical Background: In-depth knowledge of software design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and system architecture.
• Experience with application of AI to software development patterns and processes to transform the way teams build products at scale
• Evaluation and integrating: Evaluating AI proof of concepts in a standardised way, and iterating use cases through pilot phases to integrate with production products.
• Product and Project Management: Experience in managing software development products and projects, including planning, resource allocation, and delivery.
• Budgets and financial management: Ability to deliver to financial and commercial performance and hands-on experience of managing budgets and costs.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex technical challenges effectively.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical concepts at all levels of the organisation.
• Decision-Making: Demonstrated ability to make critical technical decisions and trade-offs while considering project constraints and business objectives.
• Collaboration: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key technical skills:

• Programming Languages: Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, Golang, JavaScript or Ruby.
• Software Architecture: Strong knowledge and experience in designing scalable, maintainable, and modular software architectures.
• Deep technical and hands-on expertise with cloud platform technologies e.g., GCP, AWS, Alibaba cloud.
• AI: Demonstrable experience of developing with AI, and using agents to augment and transform the software development process at scale
• Controls: Demonstratable experience of working with IT controls, and automation of control compliance within products.
• Audit: Build relationships and communicate with risk stewards, infosec and compliance partners to ensure close and continuous management of AI related change and risk factors
