If you’re looking for a career where you can make a real impression, join HSBC and discover how valued you’ll be.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Consultant Specialist.
Business: Fin, Supervision and TR Tech
Job ID: 57388
Principal responsibilities:
- Own CCR input data quality end-to-end: sourcing, preparation, mapping, enrichment, and validation for trades, collateral, agreements/netting sets, counterparty reference data, and market data.
- Translate business outcomes into clear technical requirements (definitions, assumptions, acceptance criteria, control totals, and signoffs).
- Design and run data controls: completeness, consistency, timeliness, reconciliation, and explainability of exposure movements.
- Partner with stakeholders (Traded Risk, XVA/Finance, Front Office, Collateral, etc.) to resolve breaks, agree “source of truth”, and deliver at pace.
- Drive modernization: support migration to microservices, Kafka/event-driven patterns, and improved observability (logs/metrics/traces), across GCP and on‑prem.
- Support production stability: incident triage, root-cause analysis, runbooks, cut-off management (EOD/intraday), and controlled releases.
- Work closely with developers and quants integrating Java/Python services with in-house C++ analytics libraries.
- Identify and deliver AI use cases across CCR IT processes (e.g., data quality triage, automated breaks classification, exposure movement explanation drafts, control optimization), prioritizing those with clear risk reduction and efficiency gains.
- Build and embed “AI-assisted operations” into BAU:
- auto-summarization of incidents and change requests,
- faster root-cause hypothesis generation using logs/metrics/traces,
- automated runbook recommendations and knowledge-based upkeep.
- Apply ML / statistical techniques for proactive controls such as anomaly detection on feed volumes, data drifts, reconciliation breaks, unexpected exposure movements, and limit breaches (with transparent thresholds and human override).
- Enable safe, controlled GenAI usage for technical and non-technical outputs: requirements drafting, test-case generation, release notes, reconciliation commentary, stakeholder updates—ensuring correctness, auditability, and appropriate approvals.
- Partner with engineering, data, and governance teams to ensure AI solutions are compliant and production-ready (model monitoring, change control, access controls, traceability, and clear ownership).
- Measure value and outcomes: define KPIs (time-to-triage, break backlog, control failure rates, manual effort saved) and continuously improve solutions based on evidence.
Knowledge & Experience/Qualifications:
- Strong experience in risk/finance technology with a focus on data pipelines and controls (trade + reference + market data).
- Good working knowledge of CCR fundamentals: exposure/PFE concepts, collateral & CSA terms, close-out netting, and how results aggregate (trade → netting set → counterparty/group).
- Experience clarifying requirements with senior stakeholders and communicating clearly in writing (decisions, assumptions, impact).
- Hands-on engineering ability in Java and/or Python, plus solid SQL and data analysis skills.
- Production mindset: troubleshooting, incident management, and building observable and auditable systems.
- Practical experience applying AI to workflows (not just theory): automation of repetitive analysis, operational processes, or decision-support in a controlled environment.
- Strong Python for AI-enabled engineering: working with notebooks and/or services, prompt engineering basics, and integrating AI components via APIs into existing systems/processes.
- Ability to validate AI outputs: establishing human-in-the-loop checks, quality gates, evaluation metrics, and clear audit trails so outputs are explainable and trustworthy.
- Structured problem-solving mindset: can translate messy operational pain points into automatable steps (process mapping, control points, data requirements).
What additional skills will be good to have?
- Experience with SA‑CCR implementation/support and/or CVA/XVA (including sensitivities).
- Familiarity with Kafka, microservices patterns, schema versioning, and replay/idempotency.
- Experience operating on GCP (and hybrid on‑prem/cloud setups).
- Exposure to stress testing and regulatory reporting.
- Experience with ML anomaly detection / time-series analysis for operational monitoring and data quality (e.g., drift, outlier detection, reconciliation break prediction).
- Experience building internal tooling (e.g., workflow automation, ticket enrichment, knowledge search, runbook copilots) that improves team throughput.
- Familiarity with model risk / AI governance concepts (e.g., monitoring, versioning, controlled rollout, documentation).
