We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Tech SME Specialist.

Principal responsibilities

  • Design and Define Architecture:
    • Develop and maintain the overall architecture for Insurance Distribution's digital solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals and technology strategies.
    • Create scalable, secure, and high-performance architectures for platforms such as Tablet, MWS, WeChat ecosystems, mobile apps, and Salesforce.
  • Integration Management:
    • Oversee the integration of digital solutions with other insurance applications to ensure seamless data flow and interoperability.
    • Define and implement APIs and middleware solutions to support integration requirements.
  • Technology Evaluation and Adoption:
    • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend their adoption to enhance the digital journey for lead generation, point of sales, and post-sales services.
    • Ensure the architecture supports multi-channel distribution, including HSBC internal and 3rd party channels.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Work closely with business stakeholders, development teams, and external partners to understand requirements and translate them into architectural solutions.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams to ensure adherence to architectural standards.
  • Governance and Best Practices:
    • Establish and enforce architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across all digital solutions.
    • Conduct regular architecture reviews to identify and address potential risks or inefficiencies.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Monitor and optimize the performance, scalability, and reliability of digital platforms.
    • Address technical challenges and ensure the architecture supports future growth and innovation.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Ensure that all architectural designs comply with HSBC's security policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Implement robust security measures to protect customer data and ensure data privacy.
  • Documentation and Communication:
    • Document architectural designs, decisions, and guidelines for reference by development and operations teams.
    • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

 

 

Knowledge & Experience/Qualifications

  • Educational Background:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
    • Advanced degree or certifications in architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) is a plus.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture principles and best practices.
    • Hands-on experience with digital platforms such as Salesforce, mobile apps, WeChat ecosystems, and middleware solutions.
    • Proficiency in API design, integration patterns, and microservices architecture.
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in software development, system integration, or enterprise architecture roles.
    • Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable, secure, and high-performance architectures.
    • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry is highly desirable.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Strong analytical skills to assess business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
    • Ability to identify and resolve architectural challenges and optimize system performance.
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor development teams.
    • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, business stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Strong documentation skills to create clear and concise architectural designs and guidelines.
  • Security and Compliance Knowledge:
    • Understanding of data security, encryption, and compliance requirements, particularly in the insurance or financial services domain.
    • Familiarity with regulatory standards and frameworks (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001).
  • Adaptability and Innovation:
    • A forward-thinking mindset with the ability to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies.
    • Strong adaptability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Technical experience in micro service architecture, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS Platform will be strong advantage.
  • Business knowledge in life insurance domain will be an advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, able to work independently and under pressure against multiple deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and documentation skills.
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated with excellent time management skills and strong initiative.

  • Excellent knowledge of their technical environment and will have significant responsibility in setting the way forward in the types of technology they look after. Forward thinking, making the right decisions based on strategy..
  • TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or similar architecture certifications.
  • Salesforce certifications (e.g., Salesforce Certified Technical Architect) are a strong advantage.
  • Insurance domain knowledge/certifications (e.g. LOMA FLMI) are a strong advantage.
