Principal responsibilities
•Lead technical design discussions, document decisions and trade-offs, mentor engineers, and provide hands-on code reviews while working closely with architecture, data, platform, security, and product teams.
•Integrate LLM/GenAI capabilities (e.g., RAG, prompt/agent patterns) into business workflows, ensuring outputs are reproducible, testable, explainable where required, and suitable for audit/review.
•Design, build, test, and operate scalable, reliable backend services and APIs (primarily Python/FastAPI), evolving a proof of concept into a secure production capability.
•Define stable API contracts and integration patterns for internal/external consumers, with clear versioning, documentation, and backwards-compatibility where required.
•Create clean technical boundaries between product-specific functionality and reusable platform capabilities to enable reuse across multiple consumers.
•Design and implement data ingestion and integration pipelines to validate, transform, enrich, and publish domain data using batch and event-driven patterns.
•Implement pipeline controls for data quality, reconciliation, idempotency, retries, error handling, recovery, lineage, metadata, and provenance.
•Build and maintain knowledge/retrieval capabilities over domain data (e.g., metadata/semantic models, knowledge graphs or equivalent), enabling trusted querying and interpretation.
•Embed production engineering practices: automated testing (unit/integration/contract/E2E), observability (logs/metrics/traces/alerts/dashboards), resilience, secrets/configuration management, and incident/problem resolution.
•Significant senior backend engineering experience delivering and operating production services.
•Strong Python skills and experience with modern API frameworks such as FastAPI; strong REST API design including contract design and versioning.
•Hands-on experience integrating GenAI/LLMs into applications (e.g., RAG, retrieval, prompt lifecycle management, evaluation/quality assurance) and familiarity with knowledge modelling (knowledge graphs/ontologies/semantic models) or equivalent approaches.
•Solid distributed-systems fundamentals and service integration patterns (sync/async), with experience building reusable modules/capabilities.
•Strong relational database and SQL skills: data modelling, schema migrations, and query performance tuning; experience handling structured and semi-structured data.
•Proven experience designing and building data pipelines (batch and/or event-driven), including orchestration/scheduling, retries, idempotency, validation, and recovery.
•Strong understanding of data quality and trust controls: reconciliation, data contracts, schema evolution, lineage, metadata, and provenance.
•Cloud-native engineering experience: containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD; ability to integrate with platform/infrastructure services.
•Security engineering experience: authentication/authorization, secure service-to-service communication, secrets handling, and secure handling of sensitive data.
•Production ownership mindset with strong observability and support practices (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, incident investigation).
•Comfortable leading design discussions, communicating trade-offs clearly, and working collaboratively across engineering, architecture, data, security, and platform teams in a regulated environment.
