We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering.

Principal responsibilities

• Design and refine Guardrail’s overall service operating model
• Define and improve system-level behavior under load (timeout, failure handling, degradation strategies)
• Lead performance hardening across AI and API layers
• Identify and reduce structural single-point dependencies
• Coordinate cross-component technical decisions
• Translate implicit design knowledge into reusable framework components and documentation 
• Contribute to hands-on implementation and architectural improvements

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend / platform engineering experience
• Strong experience designing scalable services
• Experience working with distributed systems or high-traffic services
• Experience working with Kubernetes or cloud-native deployments
• Strong understanding of performance tuning and service reliability
• Ability to work across components and influence technical direction
• Strong communication skills and structured thinking, experience leading technical discussions and documenting system-level design decision
• Strong ability to communicate technical trade-offs and design decisions in a cross-regional, English-speaking environment.

• Experience in internal platform or shared service teams
