Shape the Future of Private Banking Technology at HSBC
This role can be based in either Geneva or Zurich
Are you ready to lead the technology strategy for a global banking powerhouse? HSBC is seeking a visionary and dynamic Head of PB Core Platform to drive the evolution of our core banking applications. This is your opportunity to make a tangible impact on the future of Private Banking and Wealth Management, working at the intersection of innovation, resilience and customer experience.
You’ll be responsible for the technology strategy, engineering/change delivery and management of our Private Banking Core Platform estate, anchored by Avaloq - our strategic third‑party vendor core banking platform.
This role will own the Avaloq roadmap end-to-end (run + change), ensuring resilient operations, high-quality releases and strong vendor partnership and governance across a complex global ecosystem.
The role partners with key PB and Wealth Technology stakeholders globally to drive alignment to target architecture and operationalisation of systems across the regions. Through focused technology investments, the PB platform delivery teams contribute to strategic deliveries across the various business domains in PB and Wealth, typically in an enablement capacity.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead Technology Strategy & Delivery: Own the roadmap, engineering, and change delivery for our core platform applications - with Avaloq as the primary platform - ensuring seamless, high-quality releases that delight our customers.
- Drive Agile Transformation: Champion Agile ways of working, foster adoption of CI/CD pipelines and build high-performing, right-sized teams that deliver at pace.
- Enhance Service Resilience: Optimize service delivery for resilience, predictability and cost-effectiveness, while supporting the migration of core systems to the cloud.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Collaborate with global PB and Wealth Technology stakeholders to align with target architecture and operationalize systems across regions.
- Team Leadership: Lead and inspire the Avaloq Centre of Excellence teams in India and Poland, nurturing a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Vendor & Platform Governance: Own the Avaloq vendor relationship (commercials, roadmap influence, upgrades, service performance, and risk), ensuring HSBC gets the best from a strategic third-party platform.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee incident management, operational risk, and control issues, ensuring transparency and timely resolution to maintain robust IT service health.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in Private Banking and/or Wealth technology, ideally within a multi-divisional, global environment.
- Strong preference for deep Avaloq experience (implementation, major upgrades, and/or platform ownership). Experience with Temenos/FIS may be considered where directly comparable.
- Experience leading major transformation programmes focused on production resilience, performance, and client experience.
- Proven track record with high-availability, high-scale, and high-performance systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in Agile methodologies (DevSecOps, Sprints, Jira/Kanban workflows).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proven ability to address complex business needs.
- Excellent communication skills - able to present, discuss, and explain complex issues clearly to both technical and business audiences.
- A background in Software Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
- Background in managing large budgets and leading sizable, diverse teams.
