The opportunity : Head of Avaloq Site Reliability Engineering

This role primarily contributes to the management and support of the Global Avaloq Platform (Asia and Europe) from a reliability and performance viewpoint, ensuring changes for production meet the banks control standards for reliability and performance.

What you will do: 

The role will work pro-actively with the business, infrastructure, support and development teams to identify existing and new performance issues and work collaboratively to identify and support the development of solutions to address the identified issues. 

This role will ensure all solutions are implemented and tested thoroughly on development environments and provide a technical agreement to production deployment in support of the mandatory business approval.  

The role will also work closely with the infrastructure teams managing the performance of development and production environments ensuring the platform infrastructure configuration meets the performance objectives to meet business service level agreements (SLA’s).

In this role you will:

This role will take responsibility for the following areas for both Europe and Asia Avaloq Installations:

  • Provide technical assistance to support team for production incidents that impact system instability and performance issues to help identify root cause of issue.
  • Build solution themselves and/or work with subject matter expert (SME's) from HSBC or Avaloq to implement long term solution to production issues preventing their recurrence and improving performance and resilience.
  • Implement Monitoring and Alerting tooling to assist them in ensuring changes to production environments do not degrade stability or performance.
  • Pro-actively Identify, analyse, document and prioritize for resolution, issues causing production stability problems that could impact the ability of the bank to perform its normal private banking activities on all.
  • Define and maintain the strategy for maintaining platform stability and resilience.
  • Manage the prioritization of the work to be implemented to improve platform stability and ensuring the work is delivered on time and within budget.
  • Working with Avaloq SME's provide estimations on the time and cost of implementing new Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) tooling and improvements.
  • Take ownership of the implementation of any new monitoring required to enhance SRE capabilities. 
  • Provide mentoring and training to the support team to build skills to become Site Reliability Engineers to build further in house capability and accelerate SRE practices on the Avaloq platform.  


You should apply if you have:

  • Excellent understanding of all functional domains in the Private Banking Domain managed by the Avaloq Platform.
  • Avaloq release management and development background.
  • Deep understanding of Avaloq software engineering, infrastructure design, and Avaloq applications.
  • Hands-on experience in monitoring and troubleshooting the Avaloq platform using tooling such as AWR reports, flamegraphs, log analysis tool and/or similar tooling.
  • Excellent understanding of security principles & best coding/performance practices on the Avaloq Platform.
  • Excellent Avaloq coding skills. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with experience of working with multi-cultural teams.
  • Proven ability to deliver improvements into production environments within agreed timelines.  
  • Self-motivated with the ability to think and act independently to drive a change in the development culture.
  • Fluency in French and English.
