Job description

The opportunity:

Being part of HSBC in Switzerland, you’ll help evolve and grow our business.

Switzerland is our second-largest Global Private Banking (GPB) booking centre, the seat for our MENA and Europe International businesses, and a significant hub for ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients worldwide. In December 2023, our Swiss CEO announced a new growth plan for the Swiss Private Banking business.

As part of this Private Bank Republic Switzerland (PBRS) Growth Plan, we’ll be investing in the Swiss business over the coming years—alongside continued investment in our people to support long-term career development. The business and its supporting functions are accountable for effective risk management: ensuring risks are understood and that controls are strong, complete and operating effectively. For the Growth Plan to be sustainable, it must be underpinned by a robust control environment.

This is where the Business Risk Control Officer role is key, providing hands-on support to the business to strengthen the risk and control framework, monitor control performance, and help identify, escalate and remediate issues.

Are you interested? Do you have experience in operational risk, risk and control assessments, and control monitoring? Do you enjoy being part of a cohesive team?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we want to hear from you!

What you will do:

The Business Risk Control Manager supports PBRS in fulfilling its risk management and internal control responsibilities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure management has clear visibility of its control environment
  • Support the development of risk and control assessments
  • Execute control monitoring plans
  • Review the adequacy of action plans and tracking progress to closure
  • Report, record (e.g., in Helios), and escalate incidents, issues, and control deficiencies where needed

In this role you will:

  • Act as risk and control SME for the business/function and ensure management understanding of risks, controls, ownership and accountability
  • Assist the business to develop Risk and Control Assessments (both for PBRS and PBRS in Guernsey)
  • Develop and execute control monitoring plans to confirm the continued operation of key controls to their management
  • Monitor specific key risks and key controls
  • Review adequacy of action plans and monitor progress of remediation plan to closure
  • Perform thematic reviews on control points and processes
  • Report issues identified, escalate as appropriate and record in Helios
  • Manage incidents (Internal Controls, Trading), including review activities, certification of accounts, finance reporting, and Helios entries

You should apply if you have:

  • A good understanding of operational risk and controls, preferably gained through experience in front line and risk roles
  • Familiarity with the Group’s Operational Risk Framework
  • Proven problem-solving skills with ability to consider alternative and lateral solutions
  • Highly developed communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to prioritise and work independently under pressure within a team environment
  • Knowledge of the changing regulatory environment
  • A sound knowledge of the Group and the GPB business, including products and services
  • Due to immigration restrictions in Switzerland, we will only be able to consider applications from Swiss or EU citizens or from candidates holding a valid Swiss work permit

Even if you feel you do not meet 100% of our qualifications, we encourage you to apply, if you believe this role is right for you.

What you’ll get in return:

We offer a comprehensive and competitive package of benefits usually covering healthcare, life assurance, pension, and family friendly leaves, as well as many other benefits to support your wellbeing.
