Global Communications is part of our People, Governance and Communications (PG&C) structure. This team designs and implements communications strategies to support HSBC’s business objectives in line with our values, and enhance and protect our reputation among key stakeholders. 

 

Role purpose

 

Responsible for developing and implementing external and internal communications strategies that support HSBC’s corporate brand and business objectives in Mauritius. The role has a strong focus on reputation management, issues handling and executive profiling, delivering an integrated communications strategy and a social media/digital approach aligned to HSBC’s core themes and strategic priorities in-market. As part of a globally connected team, the role-holder will work seamlessly with regional and global Communications teams to execute a cohesive communications strategy for HSBC in Mauritius.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Build and leverage strong local media relationships to support proactive and reactive communications activity.
  • Draft and develop compelling content and thought leadership for traditional and social media, including speeches, press releases and LinkedIn posts.
  • Deliver a strong corporate narrative and communications strategy for Mauritius aligned to commercial priorities and global themes.
  • Support measurement of communications activity and apply insights to improve effectiveness.
  • Drive executive profiling activity, including strategic support for senior leaders’ external presence (e.g., LinkedIn profiling and content), aligned to HSBC positioning and governance.
  • Lead issues management and reputation risk media handling, providing timely escalation and clear counsel to the CEO and country leadership team under pressure and in fast-moving situations.
  • Provide internal communications support where required, ensuring employees are informed and engaged on key business priorities and change activity.
  • Work seamlessly with regional and global Communications teams and with key stakeholders in country leadership team as well as Marketing, HR and Sustainability.
  • Successfully complete Anti-Money Laundering and Sanctions training and post-course assessment, as required

 

Role Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in communications, public relations or corporate affairs.
  • Significant experience in a senior communications role, ideally within an international organisation and/or regulated environment.
  • Proven track record in corporate communications, employee communications and media relations; strong business and community networks.
  • Demonstrable local media contacts and ability to build and maintain effective relationships with journalists and external stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience in complex, regulated issues/crisis management, including confident handling of reputation risk and sensitive media engagement.
  • Experience in creative communications development, thought leadership and associated measurement strategies.
  • Strong storytelling skills with proven ability to produce clear, engaging narrative.
  • Excellent strategic planning and project management skills; able to manage ambiguity under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills; ability to guide, persuade and influence through communication and diplomacy.
  • A self-starter with the ability to take initiative and deliver independently.
  • Broad knowledge of the financial services industry and global marketplace.
