Role Purpose

 

We’re looking for a Senior Manager to join the MENAT Corporate Credit Risk team, covering a UAE Corporate portfolio and acting as the lead risk partner for Structured Trade and Specialised Lending (including Innovation Banking). This is one of the most technical roles in the team, suited to someone with strong underwriting capability, deep product knowledge, and the agility to engage with evolving sectors and new structures.

 

You’ll work in close partnership with Business and Product teams to shape and flex risk appetite, provide early-stage guidance on complex transactions, and ensure credit decisions are aligned with internal and external guidelines.

 

Key accountabilities

 

Credit underwriting & decisioning

 

  • Exercise delegated lending authority and take credit decisions that balance risk and reward in line with HSBC’s Risk Appetite.
  • Underwrite and oversee complex transactions across structured and specialised lending.

 

Portfolio risk management

 

  • Manage overall asset quality of the assigned portfolio, identifying trends and implementing mitigation actions.
  • Track high-risk/problem exposures, challenge Worry/Watch/Monitor accounts, manage NPAs, and ensure timely impairments.

 

Specialised lending leadership (primary lead)

 

  • Lead risk coverage for specialised lending including (but not limited to): Venture Debt, Project Finance, Leveraged Finance, SEF, and structured GTS lending (e.g., Pre-Export Finance, LRRD).
  • Act as the key point of contact on new products or changes to existing products, partnering with Group, Products and Policy teams.
  • Coordinate with FLOD teams and WCR colleagues in other regions to adopt best lending practices and align MENAT policy/process with Group standards.

 

Horizon scanning & sector insight

 

  • Analyse key sectors and market developments to anticipate emerging risks and opportunities impacting the portfolio.

 

Customers & stakeholders

 

  • Meet key UAE clients and actively contribute to client Account Planning with GRB.
  • Provide constructive challenge and early-stage guidance to FLOD on complex transactions—timely, open-minded and decisive.
  • Build an external network to stay current on sector innovation, product developments and market trends.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Business and key partners (e.g., Products, Legal, Group).

 

Leadership & teamwork

 

  • Collaborate effectively with FLOD, regional Risk teams and cross-functional regional partners.
  • Provide guidance and act as a “buddy” to the CoE desk officer supporting the portfolio.
  • Help keep the MENAT WCR team up to date on relevant sector and product themes.

 

Operational effectiveness & control

 

  • Review credit processes sceptically, championing simplicity and streamlining.
  • Provide input across wholesale credit risk matters (policy, oversight, stewardship, models, initiatives).
  • Keep customers at the heart of decisions, deliver fair outcomes, and uphold market integrity and conduct standards.

 

Skills, experience and qualifications

 

  • Degree qualified This is required to obtain a work permit in the UAE.; additional qualifications preferred (MBA / ACA / CFA / ACIB).
  • Minimum 10 years experience , with 5 years’ corporate lending experience as a Credit Officer and/or Corporate Banking Relationship Manager, ideally across multiple geographies.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate lending products, including complex transactions across project & export finance, structured trade finance, asset-backed lending, and debt capital markets.
  • Proven technical credit skills: financial analysis, balance sheet and P&L interpretation, cashflow stress testing.
  • Strong judgement and critical thinking—able to synthesise complex information to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Credible relationship-builder with senior stakeholders across Business, Products, Legal and Group.
  • Confident communicator—able to present and defend challenging proposals clearly and succinctly to senior management.
  • UAE market experience and/or product team experience is an advantage.
  • Personal attributes: self-driven, curious, commercial, pragmatic, and comfortable navigating difficult conversations.
