We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join us as Director of Sustainable Finance & Transition who will be responsible for leading the execution of the commercialisation agenda of sustainability in the Middle East. 

The job holder will report to the Regional Head of Sustainable Finance and Transition, Middle East and the working location for this position is HSBC Tower, Dubai, UAE.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive execution of fast-growing transition ecosystems opportunities that are identified, with a focus on clean power, electrification of transport, data centres and AI. The primary measure of success will be growth of total client revenue of the ecosystem.
    • Lead internal alignment and coordination across CIB working with banking, product Sustainability centre of excellence and functions to achieve the targeted growth.
    • Establish business performance baseline and key success measures. Implement mechanism to track short term and long-term goals.
    • Lead and execute sales and frontline enablement activities across CIB by informing global content and proposition development and coordinating the regional roll-out.
    • Lead mapping exercise to identify and execute on commercial opportunities in the project ecosystems working with global sustainability sales team.
    • Client engagement- together with Global Relationship Bankers (GRB) team, originate and execute opportunities to grow revenues in the ecosystem.
    • Inform structuring of innovative solutions based on client requirements and execute working with global sustainability sales team.
    • Work with marketing and communication partners to promote HSBC’s efforts in this space including participating and speaking in industry events.
  • Lead Sustainability and Transition coverage for some of the region’s priority clients: -
    • Work with GRBs on client planning leading the Sustainable Finance and Transition (SFT) component of the client plan.
    • Strategic Transition Engagement: Manage policies, financed emissions, transition engagement questionnaire and transition plan assessments along with coverage team.
    • Develop client sustainability insights, pitch propositions bringing along Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) product partners where relevant.
    • Originate sustainable finance across all products and lead the end to end structuring and execution of sustainable finance deals for loans.
    • Support origination of non-sustainable finance labelled products through strategic sustainability dialogue.
    • Manage greenwashing risk by supporting the banking teams with managing risks arising from our sustainability policies and the execution of sustainable finance transactions in close collaboration with business sustainability risk.

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Experienced in banking coverage in energy, infrastructure, and transportation sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of fast-growing ecosystems, with a focus on clean power, electrification of transport, data centres and AI (knowledge of players, supply chains, and banking requirements).
  • In depth knowledge of transaction banking, lending products and capital markets solutions and proven track record in originating banking opportunities working closely with product partners.
  • Strong credit knowledge and experience with originating and structuring financing transactions.
  • Experience and track record with successfully originating and executing sustainable finance labelled products.
  • Experience of building strong relationships with first line and second line Risk partners and functions.
  • Experience in commercializing proposition from ideation to go to market strategies.
  • Demonstrate success leading cross- functional initiatives by identifying and prioritizing opportunities and driving through execution at pace whilst setting and handling realistic expectations.
  • Proven track record of flexibility and resourcefulness in fluid environments of constantly evolving priorities, challenging bureaucracy and staying true to the values and strategy of the Group.
  • Graduation degree is a MUST to secure a UAE Visa and Work Permit.
