VP of Markets Treasury

Management and administration of the Bank’s Investment Portfolio. Provide support for ALCO, IRRBB, Liquidity and Funding strategies.

III.        PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

•          Management of risks resulting from the transfer pricing process and from the construction / maintenance of Liquid Asset Buffer (LAB).

•          Optimization of returns from the risks managed by Markets Treasury, ensuring metrics within the risk appetite previously defined.

•          Manage risks in accrual and trading portfolios, while minimizing accounting mismatches through hedge accounting strategies and/or fair value elections.

•          Responsible for ensuring that LAB is comprised of exposures within the risk appetite / investment policy previously defined.

•          Ensure frequent monetization of LAB according to internal guidelines and policies.

•          Active contribution to achieving Markets Treasury annual operating plan.

 

 

Analytics

 

•          Provide analytics on the LAB, seeking an efficient management based on empirical data.

•          Enhance quality of reporting on the risks carried by Markets Treasury (return on RWAs, return on tangible equity, NII forecast, MtM, others).

•          Enhance scenario analysis of risks to better estimate their revenue/return impact.

•          Produce and articulate MI around the performance of the desk.

Leadership & Teamwork

•          The role holder will be expected to take at least one direct report.

•          Become an expert across the full range of Markets Treasury matters, including liquidity/funding management.

•          Participation in several governance committees, including but not limited to Asset & Liability Committee (ALCO), Valuation Committee, Hedging Accounting Committee and Non-Financial Risk Committee.

•          Maintain a risk management mind-set, both for financial and non-financial risks, having to always hold opposing arguments in their heads while also making decisions in a pressured environment.

•          The management of the external sales coverage: ensuring the appropriate value is being derived from external counterparts (research and strategy).

•          Strong interaction with internal and external stakeholders, such as IRRBB (Interest Rate Risk on the Banking Book), Capital and Liquidity teams, global business lines and regulators.

IV.        MAJOR CHALLENGES

•          Managing cash, liquidity and funding for the entity in compliance with Group and Regulatory requirements.

•          Managing the interest rate risk transferred from other business by Finance, as well as the risk resulting from the portfolio of liquid assets.

•          Optimization of returns from the risks managed by Markets Treasury and delivery of Markets Treasury planned revenue.

•          Active participation in ALCO and other committees concerned with IRRBB, liquidity, funding and capital management.

•          Interaction with members of EXCO and interface with external regulatory bodies.

The position reports to the Head of Markets Treasury, Mexico with regular interactions with the Regional Head of Markets Treasury, Americas, the Head of Markets & Securities Services, Mexico and the Regional Head of Markets & Securities Services, LAM.

VI.       EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

•          University Degree with a minimum of eight (8) years' experience in a Financial Institution, preferably in Treasury, ALM and/or Capital OR Debt Markets functions.

•          Detailed product knowledge, notably fixed income and derivatives.

•          A detailed understanding of banking issues - liquidity, funding, structural interest rate risk and capital.

•          Previous experience in risk taking role, portfolio management and/or fixed income/currencies trading preferred.

•          Ability to work under pressure and deliver often challenging revenue/return targets, whilst maintaining an appropriate balance from a risk/control perspective.

•          Must have a strong analytical background and be quantitative.

•          Excellent communication skills in English to deal with an extremely diverse set of stakeholders across complex issues and narratives.

•          A leader with the ability to develop a small team of high-achieving individuals.

•          Excellent team player with a proactive and self-motivated attitude and ability to think and act independently.
