Role purpose

Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a sub function of Group Risk and Compliance. Its purpose is to make sure HSBC is equipped with a coherent Risk Management Framework, Risk Taxonomy and the tools to enable it to understand and operate within its Global Risk Appetite and effectively manage its overall risk position. It seeks to strengthen the risk culture across the organisation through driving consistent risk management practices across our businesses and functions at global, regional and market level. ERM achieves this through robust oversight and stewardship of the end-to-end processes, risks, and controls ensuring it complies with risk, business and regulatory priorities. Enabling the bank to grow safely, be forward looking, and meet its strategic objectives.  

The Risk Management Framework (RMF) team enables HSBC’s Latin American markets to adopt and embed the Group’s risk management approach so the region can achieve its strategic objectives safely and in line with local regulatory requirements. The RMF requires continuous enhancement as the risk landscape evolves. The role holder supports the definition of regional business outcomes and requirements that shape how the global RMF is delivered and improved locally. By applying the Group risk appetite architecture and baseline expectations across the region, the team helps aggregate and compare risk information consistently, oversee early warning indicators, monitor and manage breaches, and enable timely escalation so issues are identified and addressed promptly.

 

Main activities

  • Deliver enterprise risk reporting and disclosure outputs in line with the agreed strategy and standards, ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent reporting of risk profile, risk appetite position, and governance narrative.
  • Produce and coordinate high-quality executive materials (packs, dashboards, committee papers, briefings and talking points) for senior forums (e.g., GRMM, GRC and other management committees), ensuring clear messaging, traceable data, and adherence to templates and governance requirements.
  • Support day-to-day stakeholder coordination across Risk and Compliance for enterprise reporting cycles—agreeing timelines, chasing inputs, resolving content gaps, and escalating blockers to ensure timely decisions and sign-off.
  • Support the execution of annual and in-cycle Risk Appetite Framework refresh by coordinating inputs, maintaining documentation, tracking actions/decisions, and supporting governance through working groups and approvals to enable consistent adoption across entities/markets.
  • Support the execution of end-to-end production of risk appetite and risk map reporting for Group and subsidiaries—compiling submissions, performing quality checks, reconciling variances, and ensuring outputs are committee-ready with a clear, decision-useful narrative.
  • Support, Analyse and synthesise risk information (including macro, regulatory and strategic context) to draft concise insights, highlight key movements, and propose areas for challenge—supporting risk stewards and seniors with evidence-based commentary.
  • Deliver reporting enhancements and roadmap items by translating requirements into user stories/specifications, coordinating testing/UAT, managing release readiness, and embedding changes into BAU with updated procedures and controls.
  • Maintain BAU operational stability of reporting tools and processes by monitoring controls, managing access and entitlements (where applicable), maintaining runbooks, and ensuring recurring cycles are delivered reliably with appropriate contingency plans.
  • Draft and maintain clear reporting and governance documentation (methodologies, definitions, process notes, control evidence) to support internal governance, audit readiness, and regulatory responses.

Requirements

  • Understands the impact of risk management within HSBC Group and its commercial context and strategic ambitions.
  • A good level of knowledge of the relevant regulatory landscape and ability to access the impact of proposed changes in regulatory rules to the bank, especially those pertaining to risk management.
  • Knowledge of a financial institutions business model, products and key risk drivers.
  • A deep understanding and technical expertise of risk management, including how risks can be identified, assessed, monitored and controlled and mitigated where relevant.
  • Ability to lead and promote a strong risk control culture and continually improve risk awareness.
  • Proven ability to develop networks with key stakeholders and support a multi-locational team of professionals.
  • Providing expert advice and robust challenge, delivering risk management policies and managing risks and controls.
