Role overview
GIR is looking for a LatAm Economist/Macro Strategist. The role involves in-depth economics coverage and forecasting of Chile and Colombia, and a lesser focus on Peru and Argentina. The candidate would also contribute to HSBC’s Latin America Macro Strategy team, which involves closely monitoring market developments and working with strategists to translate economic views into actionable ideas and trades for internal and external stakeholders.
Purpose of the job
• Provide in depth economics coverage of Colombia and Chile, with secondary focus on Peru and Argentina as needed. This includes high frequency inflation and activity data forecasting for Chile and Colombia, in addition to less frequent quarterly updates on Peru and Argentina.
• Work on thematic reports on the above countries when relevant with the goal of creating marketable views. Work with other economists and strategists on regional reports with cross-country analysis. Work with FX, rates, and equity analysts to tailor analysis for clients, sales, and traders.
• Cover the daily news flow coming out of the countries and interpret what it means for internal and external stakeholders. Speak regularly to stakeholders and become an authoritative source of original analysis for the countries.
Skills/Experience Required
Skill Set
• In depth understanding of macroeconomics and some understanding of FX/fixed income markets
• Experience with quantitative economic forecasting and data analysis experience
• Spanish speaker with excellent written English. Strong communication skills
• Strong team working and collaboration skills
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in economics or finance, or related field.
Experience
• Minimum 2 years of work experience as a publishing analyst or research assistant in a bank, think tank, or similar institution
