 We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Vice President - Reference Data and Rules Management

Purpose of the role:

  • Data controls upliftment, enhancement and monitoring is a key focus of Finance with the background of IRR programme. These controls are key to ensure HSBC meets its commitment to enhance regulatory returns to required standards as well to ensure good quality internal reporting.
  • This role will support one of these key areas and is responsible for:
  • Reference data: It is a critical dataset which drives mappings, calculations, adjustments, and transformation of data in a system. Finance Cloud Data Platform consumes high volume of reference data to stitch, repair, map, calculate and report regulatory reporting and Business Finance data for Business Finance Actuals. Management of reference data is a key control and governance process in data controls framework implementation. Role holder will be accountable for reference data completeness, accuracy, and validity through a periodic review with certification and approvals for completeness and accuracy of contents at least annually. It also involves partnering with upstream and downstream teams, driving end-to-end process reviews, and leading transformation, automation, and other improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Rules Management:  Rules Management is a critical governance process responsible for the end-to-end oversight of the inventory of Base BDEs, auto-adjustments, fallbacks, and validation rules. Role holder will be accountable to ensure that appropriate controls, governance frameworks, and documentation standards are consistently applied across all these components through periodic reviews to validate the completeness, accuracy, and their relevance. These reviews involve close engagement with key stakeholders such as the Group Risk team, Group Policy team, reporting functions, and the Change Delivery team.
  • Collectively, these sub-functions prevent the use of invalid, stale, and inaccurate data being utilized in the preparation of reports, by ensuring that all system-embedded preventive controls are operating effectively, thereby safeguarding data integrity, and ensuring the robustness of downstream regulatory reporting processes.

 In this role, you will:

  • The role will be accountable for ensuring that the dataset enables HSBC Group and its subsidiaries to meet their internal and regulatory reporting commitments in a timely and accurate way.
  • The role holder will be responsible to support data analysis, operational management, and controls for Global regulatory reporting, Liquidity and Business Finance Processes. The scope will cover Base BDEs, Auto Adjustments, Validations, Fallbacks and Reference data, ESG, strategic reference data tool – RDHM based processes.
  • The role will work closely with the Reporting Operations teams, Regulatory Reporting teams, Liquidity Reporting, Business Leads, FCD team, Data owners, Product Analysts and Systems Operations team to deliver on results.
  • The role is responsible for ensuring any change to Reference Data, BDEs, Auto-adjustments, validations, and fallbacks implemented are backed by adequate documentation, change requests etc. and are of a standard which can withstand internal and external scrutiny.
  • Manage and streamline newly created processes being set up in strategic reference data tool/ platform and manage downstream process impact on Finance Cloud Data Platform space of RWA, Liquidity, BFA etc.
  • Central maintenance and governance for all BDEs, Auto-adjustments, validations, and fallbacks on Finance Data Cloud & other Finance systems
  • Support testing, UAT, remediation and Go-Live activities, the role holder will ensure appropriate governance is followed at all steps and ensure full compliance with regulation and internal processes governance.
  • The role holder will raise appropriate data quality issues in Aurora backed by detailed analysis and drive it to closure working closely with DAO.
  • The role requires data driven analysis, DUSE knowledge, multi as well as senior stakeholder management, audit discussions and cross-team collaboration.
  • Represent Reference Data / Rules Management in change forums, understating the change / impact on RDRM process and ensuring smooth implementation.
  • Act as the liaison for internal and external audits and provide solutions to queries raised.

To be successful you will:

  • Finance professional (CA/CPA/ACCA/MBA/ICWAI) with 7+ years of experience in Regulatory Reporting (RWA/ Liquidity), or FP&A with robust understanding of control, governance and risk framework.
  • Experience that demonstrates ability to deliver BAU and Change/ Transformation Project
  • Proven track record of operating in senior governance forums, handling auditors
  • Ability to analyze and interpret large volumes of data.
  • Strong understanding of reference data, Data controls, DUSE framework, Data platform (Cloud Platform), Cloud Data Architecture, Data Lineage, Financial Risk Reporting Controls
  • Data querying skills including SQL, Python etc.
  • Strong experience in Data Quality, Source Systems Analysis, Business Rules Validation, Source-Target Mapping Design and High-volume Data loads
  • The role is strongly linked to the management of risk as the single set of data will be used for all financial reporting purposes, including statutory and regulatory reporting and multiple SOX processes
  • The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings and the impact of new technology. This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring and by addressing any areas of concern with line management and/or the appropriate department.
