Venture Investments Associate - HSBC Global Asset Management

We are currently seeking high calibre individual to join our Fintech Venture Investment team as an Associate on a permanent, full-time basis. This team makes minority investments in private, fast-growing start-ups and targets top quartile venture returns.

In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with the investment team and with the portfolio companies to make investments in private, fast-growing start-ups and target top quartile venture returns.
  • Support the team at all stages of the investment lifecycle, from initial investment to post-deal portfolio management.
  • Conduct analysis of new investment opportunities originated with colleagues
  • Perform comprehensive due diligence, including technical feasibility and IP assessment, market analysis, competitive landscaping, unit economics and financial modelling, interviews of industry experts and customers, among others
  • Execute deal documentation utilising external legal resources
  • Produce investment research and investment memos
  • Help manage post-deal investments

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. Fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.
  • 4+ years of relevant working experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, or consulting, including prior deal execution experience. Prior portfolio management experience is ideal.
  • Be a critical thinker and problem solver, highly organized, and methodical. Able to meet tight deadlines with attention to detail and accuracy. Self-motivated and driven, able to work independently, and achieve results with a high degree of accountability.
  • Have excellent communication skills, commercial skills, and facility with legal documents and negotiation.
  • Financial modelling skills, including advanced Excel proficiency. Should be comfortable with cap tables, ROI analyses, 3-statement projections, and modelling of business cases/unit economics for customer value propositions.
  • A deep passion for new technologies, business innovation, and changing the world. We value positive contributions of our portfolio companies to their industry and to society as much as financial returns. While having an extensive operating background in the financial industry is not required for this role, we expect you to be able to learn quickly and convert interest into relevant actions and outcomes.

 

Due to the urgent hiring need, candidates with immediate right to work locally and no relocation need will be prioritised.
