We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as VP, Innovation and Digital Partnerships.

Team Overview

Group Innovation and Digital Partnerships (IDP) is responsible for leading the group-wide approach to innovation, driving customer-centric growth through strategic forms of AI partnerships, the enablement of innovation, and strategic pursuits, ensuring the bank stays ahead of disruptors.

Key areas of focus include:

• Leading HSBC’s Group strategic AI partnerships with strategic technology providers, frontier labs and AI companies critical to HSBC’s AI strategy
• Leading the AI partnership strategy for HSBC Group
• Leading a group-wide patent & technology research strategy, and strategy for academic engagements.
• Identifying strategic pursuits, disruptors and putting in place defensive measures to protect the future of the bank.
• Delivery of common innovation platforms, capabilities, tools, and best practices.
• Driving a culture of innovation through talent upskilling, innovation challenges, and external FinTech events.

This role will be part of the team specifically responsible for supporting the Hong Kong innovation and partnership ecosystem, as well as driving our partnership with Amazon. Responsibilities will include identifying, evaluating, and integrating cutting-edge AI solutions from our partners that deliver tangible business value for HSBC.

In this role, you will:

On the Hong Kong innovation and partnership ecosystem –

• Lead Strategic AI Partnerships for HK: Represent the Hong Kong business in identifying AI partnership opportunities involving both regional and global AI partners
• Programme management: In relation to HSBC’s partnership with HK Science & Technology Park (HKSTP), manage internal and external stakeholders across all commitments underpinning the partnership agreement.
• Innovation Leadership: Work with HKSTP Tech Ventures in contributing towards HSBC innovation priorities (incl. AI), identify potential solutions that the bank can adopt, and by extension ensure that we fulfil our commitment towards developing the local fintech ecosystem.
• HK Market Analysis and Strategy: Conduct market research to identify opportunities for digital innovation and partnerships. By extension, help with coordinating the HK Fintech Council and improve alignment across businesses / function on local innovation partnerships.

On the Amazon partnership –

• Innovation Leadership: Spearhead development and implementation of innovation opportunities that leverage Amazon’s ecosystem and capabilities. Identify emerging trends and technologies from partner ecosystems that HSBC can make a meaningful contribution towards, and vice versa.

More broadly, help identify and drive new business opportunities, leveraging the bank-wide relationship with HSBC’s strategic technology partners.

To be successful in this role you should have the following skills:

Technical:

• AI Strategy & Implementation: Demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence, including machine learning, natural language processing, generative AI, and their practical applications in financial services. Experience in designing, deploying, and scaling AI solutions in a regulated environment.
• Commercial Acumen: Apply strong commercial insight to identify and develop strategic partnerships that drive innovation and digital transformation.
• Experience with Vendor Negotiations: Engage in vendor negotiations to establish and maintain partnerships that enhance digital capabilities and innovation.
• Broad Technical Knowledge: Utilise a comprehensive understanding of emerging technologies to support the development of innovative digital solutions.
• Competitive Intelligence and Market Trends: A robust understanding of competitive analysis and the latest trends in financial services, including disruptors such as neobanks, fintechs, and technologies like AI.

• Connections into the Innovation Ecosystem: Leverage and expand networks within the innovation ecosystem to foster digital partnerships and collaborative opportunities.
