Job description
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Product Manager, Digital Assets.
Role Purpose:
Digital Assets & Currencies (DAC) is a core pillar of future growth for CIB and, by extension, Securities Services (SSV). It underpins how we evolve our client proposition, strengthen market position, and operate at scale as financial markets digitise.
This role is responsible for market advocacy, product strategy, and product delivery for Securities Services digital assets capabilities, focusing on tokenised securities and tokenised funds, and digital asset custody.
The Product Manager owns product roadmap progression and outcomes, ensuring delivery aligns to regulatory expectations, internal risk and control standards, and client needs. The role also supports research and development (R&D) type initiatives where solutions are new and require structured discovery, direction and iterative delivery.
Responsibilities:
Market advocacy (external representation and ecosystem influence)
- Sustained engagement with regulators, consortiums, industry groups and strategic providers to maintain HSBC credibility, stay close to market structure developments and influence standards relevant to tokenisation and digital asset custody
- Represent HSBC appropriately in region with senior counterparts at peer institutions, asset managers and key vendors/partners, ensuring insight is converted into actionable product implications
- Identify partnership opportunities and ecosystem risks early (regulatory direction, vendor maturity, operational models, market infrastructure evolution) and translate into recommendations for SSV/CIB leadership
Product strategy (vision, roadmap, partnerships, governance)
- Define and drive (or, where strategy is owned elsewhere, partner with existing Product teams to incorporate) digital assets strategy, priorities and roadmap for tokenised securities/funds and digital asset custody, aligned to SSV/CIB objectives, target clients and market priorities. This includes embedding digital assets capabilities into relevant Securities Services product strategies, ensuring dependencies, operating model impacts and delivery sequencing are understood and reflected in roadmaps.
- Lead product discovery and early-stage definition activities including business case inputs (scope, objectives, dependencies, costs, assumptions, acceptance criteria, issues and risks), with a particular focus on ambiguous / R&D type initiatives (pilots, proofs-of-concept) where solutions are evolving
- Define partnership strategy and support provider selection and governance for priority vendors/partners, including evaluation criteria, oversight cadence, deliverables management and commercial input (in partnership with appropriate internal functions)
- Implement product governance and reporting cadence (roadmap status, delivery progress, key decisions, risks/issues and dependencies), escalating blockers to improve decision velocity where required
Product delivery (requirements-to-release, adoption, outcomes)
- Support delivery of strategic product solution initiatives (digital assets) in accordance with relevant HSBC governance, methods, competencies and change management frameworks
- Ensure the integration of all business functions (Product, Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Client Coverage and third parties) to enable operational/business readiness, safe delivery and scalable operating models
- Translate product objectives into clear delivery scope for Technology and Programme Management (features/epics, milestones, releases), ensuring traceability from concept/hypothesis through to production outcomes and measurable client adoption
- Define effective business requirements and ensure sign-off, aligned with SS standard, including requirements for:
- tokenised securities and tokenised funds servicing and lifecycle handling
- digital asset custody proposition, processing model and control requirements
- client onboarding and servicing model (documentation, reporting, support, exception handling)
- integration with internal platforms, market infrastructures and vendor solutions (where applicable)
- Define target operating model impacts and change requirements (process, controls, roles/responsibilities, training and BAU handover), ensuring new capabilities can be supported at scale
- Support definition of testing approach and acceptance criteria (SIT/UAT readiness, operational readiness testing, pilot entry/exit criteria), ensuring appropriate controls and resilience considerations for new processing models
- Define and drive go-to-market planning with stakeholders (client pipeline development, onboarding approach, client readiness criteria, adoption measures), ensuring success measures are clear and actively tracked
- Support benefits identification, modelling and tracking (e.g., onboarding targets, adoption metrics, time-to-market improvement, scalability and control enhancements) and coordinate reporting with senior stakeholders
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance environment and requirements; ensure early engagement for novel structures and operating models and alignment to internal control standards and risk appetite
Requirements:
- Disciplined product management professional with solid experience in delivery of complex initiatives (product/platform build and/or client onboarding) with robust governance standards and ability to manage prioritisation and trade-offs
- Experience working with Agile delivery techniques and understanding of product delivery in practice, including translating strategy into roadmap, requirements and release planning
- Able to demonstrate ability to build relationships with C-Suite / Senior stakeholders and networks across the business, and represent HSBC credibly with external stakeholders (including regulators/industry groups as required)
- Experience working cross-functionally across Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance and Legal, and driving decisions in complex delivery environments
- Experience managing third-party / vendor relationships and stakeholder governance, including evaluation and oversight of strategic providers
- Strong business requirements management and testing awareness; solid understanding of SDLC and business change techniques including application of industry-standard methodologies, techniques, complex modelling and scenario planning
- Financial Services experience, ideally in a Fund Administration, Transfer Agency, Global Custody/Trustee or Investment Management field, with proven understanding of a complex Operations environment and mandatory regulations
- Digital assets experience strongly preferred, specifically relating to tokenised securities/funds and/or digital asset custody operating models (excluding crypto custody)
- Proven experience in ambiguous / R&D environments and providing direction through structured discovery, options analysis, phased pilots and progression planning from PoC to scalable capability
- Proven ability to prioritise competing demands; strong analytic and decision making abilities; must be a team player and able to work with and through others.
