The Hong Kong Management Office supports the Chief Executive Hong Kong in leading the Hong Kong business and facilitates strategic coordination among HSBC's Global Businesses and Infrastructure teams in Hong Kong, enabling the execution of our strategy in this critical market for the Bank. The Office gathers information, facilitates decision-making for the Chief Executive and monitors the execution of strategic initiatives.
We are currently seeking a high-calibre professional to join the team in the role of Senior Manager Strategic Growth and Sustainability. The candidate will work on 3 main categories in a very driving team, which will give high visibility and interaction with the Hong Kong executive leadership team.
Business Strategic growth & planning
- Drive a number of key strategic growth initiatives directly impacting the Hong Kong Business and support the strategic growth ambition, with a focus on the retail business. These strategic initiatives would span across definition, discovery, design, business case development and execution
- Work with the Hong Kong CEO, the Business leadership and infrastructure teams in the preparation of the Market strategy and financial plan
- Act as a subject matter expert in problem solving, design thinking, and strategic planning, supporting the other business functions in their own strategic planning process and in solving their problem statement, and by offering recommendations for business development and commercialisation
- Work across all business domains to conduct business strategic review and long term planning (incl. strategic competitive review, market positioning, market development, business and operating model review, organisation design) in Wealth Management, Mobile and AI, Retail Banking, Distribution, CMB, Customer segments i.e. Global Chinese
Collaboration & Sustainability
- Advise departments on shaping their business priorities in line with the overall Hong Kong Business strategy to drive growth and realise synergies through collaboration across functions and Lines of Business
- Identify opportunities for new value proposition development across Lines of Businesses (i.e. HK, CIB, IWPB) and act as the single point of contact across various business stakeholders to move the opportunity into execution
- Offer consultative advice, insights and design thinking facilitation support to tackle problem statements around key themes, e.g. ESG, mobile ambition, AI, new Technology trends
- Drive the development of the sustainability strategy and ambition for the HK Business (with a focus on RBW) market, developing the portfolio, creating the impact, the value propositions with respective products and mobile developments, and communication plan
- Work as the business representative with external third parties e.g. NGOs, Services Providers, FinTechs building relationships on Sustainability and collaboration opportunities, linking with other business teams, but also act and liaise with the products and risks teams to answer HKMA queries and thematic reviews
Chief of Staff
- Organise and lead Chief of Staff activities, e.g. offsites / meetings; and coordinate or directly draft the paper for other Regional / Group governance forums, strategic thematic papers, Board papers, and other strategic performance dashboards; liaising with the various business functions and ensuring the supporting materials are reviewed and aligned with the Hong Kong Pillar overall messages and strategic direction
- Develop, maintain, and report the scorecard for the CEO of Hong Kong
- Conduct research on market insights and competitor benchmarking
- Cultivate relationships with business partners across local / Regional / Group as point of liaison
- Lead a team and coach other members of the Chief of Staff and Strategy department
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications (For the role – not the role holder. Minimum requirements of the role.)
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess a strong background in the financial services industry. A sound understanding of Retail and Wealth product areas is beneficial
- Very strong understanding of the banking industry in Hong Kong – capable of understanding implications of major policy developments to both HSBC and the industry at large
- Possess strong collaboration and persuasive skills required to influence, work effectively with different senior stakeholders
- Strong drive with a high degree of proactivity - able to work both independently and collaboratively across different levels of HSBC
- Possess analytical skills, capacity to process complex information and synthesise key themes and issues
- Confidence to interface directly with internal and external senior executives
- Be able to navigate and deliver results in a matrixed organisation while fostering relationships with stakeholders
- Be customer centric with product / proposition know-how
- Be able to approach ambiguous problems strategically and translate concept into actionable plans to drive business results
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is beneficial
