HSBC Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) is a markets-led, financing-focused business that provides investment and financial solutions. Within CIB, Securities Services provides robust and reliable solutions that help clients mitigate risk and enhance their business performance. Working with institutional investors, banks, insurance companies, governments, and multinational corporations, this team covers fund administration, global custody, sub-custody and clearing, and corporate trust and loan agency services.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Product Director.
Role Purpose
The Digital Assets Product Director will be accountable for end to end product ownership for DAC initiatives relevant to Securities Services, including definition of the proposition, partnership approach, requirements and governance, working closely with Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Client Coverage and Programme Management.
Digital Assets & Currencies (DAC) is a core pillar of future growth for CIB and, by extension, Securities Services (SSV). It underpins how we evolve our client proposition, strengthen market position, and operate at scale as financial markets digitise.
This role provides strategic leadership, market advocacy and delivery outcomes ownership for Securities Services digital assets capabilities in APAC, and shapes global direction through active contribution to DAC/SSV strategy, focusing on tokenised securities and tokenised funds, and digital asset custody.
The Product Director is accountable for delivery outcomes and regional adoption for the portfolio, and materially influences global strategy, investment choices and portfolio direction, ensuring delivery aligns to regulatory expectations, internal risk and control standards, and client needs. The role sponsors and governs R&D initiatives (pilots/PoCs) through to controlled production and scalable BAU adoption, defining entry/exit criteria and ensuring operational readiness.
Key Accountabilities
Market advocacy (external representation and ecosystem influence)
- Lead APAC regulatory and industry engagement for Securities Services digital assets, ensuring positions are well governed, risks understood, and outcomes are translated into strategy and delivery. Including engagement with consortiums, industry groups and strategic providers to maintain HSBC credibility, stay close to market structure developments and influence standards relevant to tokenisation and digital asset custody
- Act as the Securities Services Digital Assets Product senior representative in APAC, engaging with senior counterparts (clients, market infrastructures, regulators, industry bodies and strategic providers) and ensuring APAC insight drives global product decisions. at peer institutions, asset managers and key vendors/partners, ensuring insight is converted into actionable product implications
- Identify partnership opportunities and ecosystem risks early (regulatory direction, vendor maturity, operational models, market infrastructure evolution) and translate into recommendations for SSV/CIB leadership
- Attend relevant governance forums as the SSV delegate for APAC digital assets; represent agreed positions, capture actions/decisions, and ensure outcomes are executed
Product strategy (vision, roadmap, partnerships, governance)
- Shape and drive digital assets strategy (or, where strategy is owned elsewhere, partner with existing Product teams to incorporate), priorities and roadmap in alignment with global DAC/SSV direction, including investment trade-offs, target operating model implications and sequencing; operate with minimal guidance, independently securing alignment across stakeholders.
- Lead discovery and early-stage definition and produce decision-grade materials (options analysis, commercial framing, operating model impacts, risk/control considerations and delivery approach) to secure approvals and funding, with a particular focus on ambiguous / R&D type initiatives (pilots, proofs-of-concept) where solutions are evolving
- Define partnership strategy and drive provider selection and governance for priority vendors/partners, including evaluation criteria, oversight cadence, deliverables management and commercial input (in partnership with appropriate internal functions)
- Implement product governance and reporting cadence (portfolio status, delivery progress, key decisions, risks/issues and dependencies), escalating blockers to improve decision velocity where required
Product delivery (requirements-to-release, adoption, outcomes)
- Own delivery outcomes for strategic product solution initiatives and sponsor end-to-end execution from discovery through to production adoption and BAU handover, in accordance with relevant HSBC governance, methods, competencies and change management frameworks
- Ensure the integration of all business functions (Product, Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Client Coverage and third parties) to enable operational/business readiness, safe delivery and scalable operating models
- Translate product objectives into clear delivery scope for Technology and Programme Management (features/epics, milestones, releases), ensuring traceability from concept/hypothesis through to production outcomes and measurable client adoption
- Provide senior sponsorship of requirements and sign-offs, ensuring traceability to agreed outcomes, control standards and operational readiness., including requirements for:
- tokenised securities and tokenised funds servicing and lifecycle handling
- digital asset custody proposition, processing model and control requirements
- client onboarding and servicing model (documentation, reporting, support, exception handling)
- integration with internal platforms, market infrastructures and vendor solutions (where applicable)
- Define target operating model impacts and change requirements (process, controls, roles/responsibilities, training and BAU handover), ensuring new capabilities can be supported at scale
- Support definition of testing approach and acceptance criteria (SIT/UAT readiness, operational readiness testing, pilot entry/exit criteria), ensuring appropriate controls and resilience considerations for new processing models
- Define and drive go-to-market planning with stakeholders (client pipeline development, onboarding approach, client readiness criteria, adoption measures), ensuring success measures are clear and actively tracked
- Be accountable for benefits realisation, including defining success metrics, tracking adoption, and reporting realised outcomes to senior stakeholders/governance.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance environment and requirements; ensure early engagement for novel structures and operating models and alignment to internal control standards and risk appetite
Knowledge & Experience
- At least 8–10 years relevant experience in product management, change delivery, onboarding/migrations or platform build in securities / fund administration / fund middle office / custody environments
- University graduate preferably in business administration, information technology or a similar discipline
- Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of the securities market and the associated market infrastructure for Fund Administration, Fund Middle Office and Custody business, with awareness of emerging market structures supporting tokenised assets and digital asset custody
- General awareness of business, regulatory and technology change within investment management is essential, including digital assets and currencies developments relevant to Securities Services
- Good technical aptitude, including excellent knowledge in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint/Excel); familiarity with structured requirements management and delivery tooling is beneficial
