We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join the Banking FRM team as Head of Capital Strategy Asia & Middle East.
In support of our ambition to be the world’s #1 Corporate & Institutional Bank, we are accelerating our plans to evolve our Credit and Capital Management capabilities to drive better customer outcomes, enable growth and improved shareholder returns. CCM’s Banking Financial Resource Management (FRM) team aspires to establish a world class end to end Banking FRM function that will actively manage and steer the Bank’s balance sheet, as part of a fully-interlocked CIB FRM function.
Role Purpose
Credit and Capital Management (CCM) is establishing a Banking FRM capability. The Director, Head of Capital Strategy, Asia and Middle East Banking is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive and sustainable capital optimization strategy for Asia and Middle East, contributing to RWA efficiency and optimizing Banking and Global CIB Return on Tangible Equity (RoTE) and Economic Profit (EP).
Key Responsibilities
The Director, Head of Capital Strategy, Asia and Middle East Banking will primarily be responsible for:
- Establishment of comprehensive capital strategy for Asia and Middle East Banking
- Maintaining real time capital runway for Asia and Middle East Banking across PRA and local RWA, incorporating regulatory changes, model changes, RWA optimisation activities, business growth and distribution activities
- Working with Model Strategy team to ensure appropriate prioritisation of model changes
- Working with Regulatory Affairs to deliver appropriate advocacy, respond to regulatory studies, and support regional regulators in development of capital rules
- RWA optimisation through sustainable data improvements, appropriate regulatory interpretations and advocacy
- Working with CCM COO to ensure that banker tooling appropriately incorporates the necessary granularity to support Capital Strategy requirements
- Working with product and coverage teams to advise on appropriate product design and transaction structuring from capital optimisation perspective
- Backtesting of activities
- Work with Treasury and Stress Testing teams to ensure stress testing results and inventory of management actions are credible
- Compliance with applicable regulation and Group policies and governance frameworks

Primary customers are:
- Business lines – CIB
- Functional Teams – Treasury, Business Finance, Risk, COO
- Group & Regional teams
The roleholder will interact equally with senior management of stakeholder groups and front line bankers as necessary. Governance should be in accordance with Group standards policy and procedures.

Major Challenges

Experience
- Relevant Banking, Finance and Regulatory Capital experience (10 years), including of market-facing activities
- Knowledge and experience of CIB and Banking products, including range of distribution channels
- High level of drive and motivation to ensure successful delivery of complex and transformational initiatives
- Proven ability in working across multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural diverse work environments, with evidence of managing and satisfying multiple stakeholders and perspectives in a fluid and changing environment
- Strong understanding of HSBC Group structures, processes, values, and behaviours
Capabilities
- Outcome-focused with ability to pay attention to detail and ensure tasks are completed on time and to the required levels of quality
- Excellent problem solving and quantitative skills, with ability to synthesise multiple priorities against multivariate constraints
