CCM’s Banking Financial Resource Management (FRM) team aspires to establish a world class end to end Banking FRM function that will actively manage and steer the Bank’s balance sheet, as part of a fully-interlocked CIB FRM function.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Head Of Balance Sheet Steering and Optimisation. (Location - HK or London)
Role Purpose
Credit and Capital Management (CCM) is establishing a Banking FRM capability. The Director, Global Head of Balance Sheet Steering and Optimisation, Banking is responsible for building an active steering capability to optimize Banking and Global CIB Return on Tangible Equity (RoTE).
Key Responsibilities
The Director, Global Head of Balance Sheet Steering and Optimisation, Banking will primarily be responsible for:
- Establishment of granular and active steering capability to optimize Banking and Global CIB RoTE
- Collaboration to deliver precision pricing framework and metrics to effectively signal correct economics to bankers, supporting accurate decisioning and growth
- Business ownership of Banking Global Booking Model
- Establishment of marginal pricing pilots and capability, including pricing signals to Strategic Client Origination
- Distribution requests to Portfolio Optimisation
- Work with Portfolio Distribution and Optimisation teams to establish effective internal distribution mechanism
- Work with Banking FRM and CCM COO teams for delivery of required changes to banker tools to ensure that the tools accurately inform on the financial resource and returns impact of banker activity
- Support to Global Head of Banking FRM on Banking Liquidity and IRRBB economic strategies
- Establishment of governance frameworks for the Banking Balance Sheet Steering and Optimisation sub pillar
- Compliance with applicable regulation and Group policies and governance frameworks
Customers / Stakeholders
Primary customers are:
- Business lines – CIB
- Functional Teams – Treasury, Business Finance, Risk, COO
- Group & Regional teams
The roleholder will interact equally with senior management of stakeholder groups and front line bankers as necessary. Governance should be in accordance with Group standards policy and procedures.

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
Experience
- Bank treasury experience (5 – 10 years), including active market-facing experience
- Knowledge and experience of private-side banking products, including range of distribution channels
- Track record of leading active balance sheet deployment through teams directly and indirectly across local and remote environments
- High level of drive and motivation to ensure successful delivery of complex transformational initiatives
- Proven ability in working across multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural diverse work environments, with evidence of managing and satisfying multiple stakeholders and perspectives in a fluid and changing environment
- Strong understanding of HSBC Group structures, processes, values, and behaviours
Capabilities
- Outcome-focused with ability to pay attention to detail and ensure tasks are completed on time and to the required levels of quality
- Excellent problem solving and quantitative skills, with ability to build financial models
- Ability to make critical decisions and strategically prioritise based on business goals
- Developed understanding of bank regulations across capital (banking book and trading book) and liquidity
