We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our Hong Kong business as Director - Digital Currencies Commercialisation.

 

Role purpose

 

HSBC’s Global Payments Solutions (GPS) Digital Currencies Team develops and scales digital-currency-enabled capabilities that evolve our payments, settlement, and currency clearing propositions. The team works across business lines and geographies to shape client propositions, build partnerships and industry collaborations, and deliver controlled innovation in areas such as tokenised money, wholesale digital currency models, and next-generation settlement mechanisms.

 

In this global role, you will lead the commercialisation of HSBC GPS digital-currency-enabled capabilities—translating controlled innovation in tokenised money, wholesale digital currency models and next-generation settlement mechanisms into scalable, well-governed client propositions across businesses and geographies. Client expectations are shifting towards faster, more transparent, always-on cross-border payments and settlement, with stronger traceability and improved liquidity outcomes. At the same time, the market is progressing towards regulated forms of digital money and new settlement designs that must integrate smoothly with established payment rails and market infrastructure. Success will depend on active collaboration with industry bodies and regulators, which increasingly determines what can be delivered compliantly and at scale.

 

Principal responsibilities

 

  • Commercial portfolio ownership: Own commercial outcomes for the digital currencies and settlement services portfolio; define packaging, target segments, distribution approach and adoption strategy
  • Value proposition and go-to-market: Identify and evaluate market trends in digital currencies, emerging payments and digital asset opportunities; translate them into a clear, executable go-to-market strategy
  • Commercialisation delivery: Drive end-to-end commercialisation of digital currencies & emerging payments products enabled by blockchain/DLT, AI/ML and evolving technologies
  • Customer and deal solutioning: Lead product solutioning for complex RFPs and bespoke client requirements; shape proposals and commercial constructs with internal stakeholders
  • Sales/coverage mobilisation: Build playbooks, training and consistent messaging to enable sales and client coverage teams to position propositions confidently and responsibly
  • Market engagement: Support internal teams and external market participants (including regulators) on consultations, proofs-of-concept, pilots, and wider industry collaboration
  • Risk management & product reviews: Ensure new propositions complete product reviews and that inherent and residual risks are assessed, mitigated and documented before scaling
  • Marketing and thought leadership: Create and respond to media/marketing opportunities to reinforce HSBC’s leadership in the digital currencies agenda
  • Stakeholders management: Closely collaborating with Clients; Coverage RMs and Sales; GPS Product, Technology, Operations; and risk stewards including Compliance; Legal; Finance; and external parties such as fintechs and third‑party partners; central banks; industry bodies

 

Requirements 

 

  • Significant experience in commercialisation, go-to-market, product sales enablement within financial services; payments or transaction banking strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of driving client adoption and revenue outcomes, including managing senior stakeholders and complex, multi-party delivery
  • Relevant experience in similar organisations, such as global banks, transaction banking, fintech, digital assets ecosystem preferred
  • Strong understanding of banking and payments flows, including how transaction banking solutions are sold and implemented
  • Good understanding of Digital Assets and Currencies (DAC) product landscape, industry developments, and evolving client demand
  • Strong client-facing capability, able to articulate solutioning clearly and credibly to senior client stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, bothwritten and verbal, with the ability to create crisp client-ready narratives and materials
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management across Sales, Product, MSS, Technology, Operations, Risk and Compliance
  • Execution discipline, be able to drive actions to closure and ensure implementation translate into measurable outcomes
  • Highly revenue and results oriented, comfortable working with performance metrics and commercial targets
  • University degree minimum, or equivalent professional experience
  • Excellent written and spoken English, additional language capababilities is an advantage
