HSBC Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) is a markets-led, financing-focused business that provides investment and financial solutions. Within CIB, Securities Services provides robust and reliable solutions that help clients mitigate risk and enhance their business performance. Working with institutional investors, banks, insurance companies, governments, and multinational corporations, this team covers fund administration, global custody, sub-custody and clearing, and corporate trust and loan agency services.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Director, Digital Assets Strategy & Product, Equities.

Role Summary

This role will lead the digital assets strategy and product agenda for HSBC’s Equities business, with a primary focus on commercially relevant use cases across securities financing, collateral mobility and post-trade workflow transformation.

The ideal candidate will be a strong subject matter expert with credible knowledge of digital assets and currencies, a practical understanding of how product lifecycles operate in traditional financial markets, and hands-on experience in Collateral, Repo and Securities Financing. A good understanding of the broader Equities business is also important.

The role combines strategy, product leadership and execution. The successful candidate will be expected to identify high-value opportunities, shape the roadmap and work across a matrix organisation to drive delivery in partnership with COO, product owners, business analysis, programme management, technology and support functions.

Business Rationale

Digital assets are becoming increasingly relevant to market infrastructure and product development. Within Equities, the most immediate opportunities are in collateral efficiency, securities financing, margin workflows and the reduction of friction across product lifecycles and post-trade processes.

A dedicated senior role is required to provide clear ownership, SME depth, product leadership, strong execution across front office and infrastructure teams, and alignment with HSBC’s broader digital assets strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the digital assets strategy for Equities business activities and related post-trade workflows.
  • Act as the senior SME for applying digital assets capabilities to traditional market product cycles, with particular focus on collateral, repo and securities financing use cases.
  • Build and maintain a prioritised multi-year roadmap across collateral, securities financing, margin, settlement and selected broader Equities workflows.
  • Lead product thinking on tokenised collateral, financing-linked innovation, digital post-trade workflows and related market infrastructure opportunities.
  • Drive execution across front office, COO, programme management, technology, operations, legal, compliance, risk and finance teams.
  • Develop business cases, governance papers and senior management materials to support prioritisation and investment decisions.
  • Engage with clients, FMIs, custodians, exchanges, CCPs and external partners where relevant to shape opportunities and solutions.
  • Monitor market, regulatory and technology developments and refresh the roadmap accordingly.
  • Working closely with Head of Digital Assets for CIB and DAC leads across MSS to coordinate the digital assets agenda for Equities and ensure alignment with the broader strategy and delivery approach.
  • Act as the Equities Digital Assets Product senior representative with external participants (clients, market infrastructures, regulators, industry bodies, and strategic providers)

Knowledge and Experience

  • Significant experience in one or more of the following: securities financing, repo, collateral management, prime finance / prime brokerage, Equities product management, post-trade / market infrastructure, or digital assets product strategy in an institutional banking environment.
  • Strong understanding of traditional financial markets product lifecycles, including front-to-back dependencies and post-trade considerations.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of digital assets, tokenisation and DAC themes in regulated capital markets.
  • Practical experience or strong domain understanding in collateral and/or securities financing as a core priority area.
  • Good understanding of the wider Equities business.
  • Strong execution capability, including the ability to navigate a complex organisation and deliver outcomes through others.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and structured problem-solving skills.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a senior product-oriented SME who can bridge digital assets innovation with real-world traditional market workflows.

Priority will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in collateral management, securities financing and repo-related workflows, combined with strong knowledge of digital assets and tokenisation in regulated financial markets.
