We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Associate Director, Metals Origination.
Role Purpose
Support the sales and origination of precious metals products and the management of client relationships across APAC. The role-holder will work closely with senior salespeople and relationship managers to identify, develop and maintain client relationships, engaging confidently with central banks, reserve managers, hedge funds, asset managers and corporates, with a strong focus on execution, day‑to‑day coverage and delivery of client solutions.
In this role you will:
- Provide day‑to‑day client coverage and solutions across precious metals spot, financing and derivatives, under the guidance of senior team members
- Support new business origination by partnering with relationship managers and product teams
- Collaborate with local non‑precious metals sales to generate leads and deepen existing relationships, ensuring coordinated cross‑product coverage
- Assist with client onboarding and documentation, including drafting, coordination and negotiation of leasing and clearing documentation with Legal and Operations
- Identify and escalate cross‑selling opportunities and support collaboration with other Markets and Banking teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Contribute to product enhancement and development by analysing client needs and market trends to help grow revenue and optimise capital/credit usage
- Uphold high standards of conduct and adherence to global policies, with strong focus on Financial Crime Compliance (FCC), regulatory/compliance (RCC) requirements and controls around physical metal activities
Key Accountabilities
- Support year‑on‑year revenue growth in Financing, Custody & Clearing and Trading/Flow through pipeline development, execution and post‑trade follow‑up
- Assist with identifying and onboarding new clients, including client materials, credit applications and documentation execution
- Collaborate effectively with other sales desks, relationship managers and product partners to deliver coordinated client coverage
- Work closely with trading and operations to ensure efficient execution, accurate booking and timely resolution of post‑trade issues
- Build a strong reputation with clients and internal stakeholders for responsiveness, product knowledge and quality of execution support
- Contribute to projects and initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness, client experience and risk management
- Support the team’s contribution to HSBC’s external rankings and surveys through high‑quality client service and timely information delivery
- Maintain strong awareness of, and adherence to, FCC and RCC requirements, particularly for physical precious metals, ensuring prompt escalation and remediation of issues
To be successful you will need:
- University degree in Finance, Economics, Business or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
- Solid exprience in commodities / precious metals or related markets, ideally with exposure to commodity structuring and financing. Experience in sales, trading, structuring and relationship management is an advantage
- Strong knowledge of financial products and derivatives, with experience covering corporate and/or institutional clients
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Fluency in English is essential, with Cantonese and Mandarin highly advantageous
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and internal stakeholders across multiple segments and geographies
- Proven team player with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, with strong attention to detail and risk awareness
