What you will do:
This is a senior leadership role charged with leading the Continental Europe FC Investigations (FCI) function.  The role works closely with the FC Investigations colleagues across the bank to manage the effective delivery of FC Investigations for the Continental Europe markets.  This role is involved in decision making and providing expertise to Financial Crime Detection teams as well as Transaction Monitoring (TM), FCI Change projects and overseeing the delivery of all investigations and analytical outputs, including controls management and the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the function, senior stakeholder engagement, and providing coordination HBCE Investigations teams.  The jobholder has a significant role to play in supporting the growth and optimal performance of the CoE in India as well as our supporting Global Service Center in Krakow and embedding TM Operations in Investigations.


In this role you will:

  • Direct and oversee the end-to-end delivery of the France investigations, including collaboration with the CoE and Global to achieve timely service delivery in line with regulatory expectations and Global Procedures

  • Build capability and maintaining/improving operational effectiveness

  • Provide capacity planning, leading transformation initiatives (e.g. Transaction Monitoring implementations), driving optimization/efficiency initiatives for the function, drive investigations quality/training agenda, support internal/external Assurance/Audit/Reg examinations, and location optimization

  • Support the continuing integration of the TM Ops team into Investigations, optimising processes and governance to achieve a seamless E2E view of investigations

  • Oversee compliance with Investigations procedures at country level, including HBCE sites across the legal entity & escalation as appropriate from those sites

  • Communicate to market CEOs, other senior business and Compliance colleagues the risks identified and arising from investigations, and work with those partners to remediate risks as necessary

  • Represent HBCE Investigations in senior Group, Region, governance fora and support the preparation of submissions for relevant fora as necessary   

  • Enhance effective risk management by working closely with Risk Stewards and other first line Compliance colleagues, for example Detection and Complex Investigations

  • Serve as Investigations Control Owner and ensure Issues/Control Monitoring Assessments are appropriately managed

  • Manage & provide strategic direction to large teams, either directly or through matrix arrangements

  • Lead the people agenda for the HBCE Investigations teams

  • Proven track record of strategic leadership, planning future capacity/capability requirements and delivering effective implementation planning

  • An effective people leader, including the ability to manage multiple teams and individuals to perform at their best, both through direct and matrix management arrangements

  • Capable of working in a complex environment with multiple variables and unknowns

  • Financial crime risk management experience, including the ability to manage complex operational matters arising from multiple sources

  • Proven track record of creating operational efficiencies whilst maintaining quality in an operational process

  • Excellent decision-making skills and judgement, including analytical and strategic thinking and an ability to prioritise and set clear targets for teams

  • Stakeholder management, including effective communications, relationship building, negotiation and conflict resolution

  • Flexible and adaptable, showing agile approaches to work and an ability to reconcile different market, regulatory and Global requirements

  • French and English language is required

  • FC Investigative experience is highly desirable
