What you will do:

As a Compliance Officer for FC Sanctions, you’ll play a key role in safeguarding HSBC Continental Europe’s adherence to sanctions and regulatory requirements, with a particular focus on Global Markets. You’ll act as a subject-matter expert, supporting our business lines and driving operational excellence.

 

In this role you will:

  • Advice & Guide: Act as the go-to expert for sanctions and regulatory compliance, providing technical advice to business and operational teams. Represent the function at governance forums and act as delegate approver for client sanctions exposure.
  • Manage Risk & Controls: Oversee the review and validation of products, services, and marketing materials from a sanctions risk perspective. Develop and update local procedures, ensuring alignment with evolving regulations and HSBC Group standards.
  • Engage Stakeholders: Build strong relationships with business lines, relationship managers, and regional sanctions teams. Support engagement with domestic and international regulators and respond to ad hoc advisory requests.
  • Drive Reporting & Analytics: Prepare and consolidate internal and regulatory reports Monitor issues through systems such as Helios and IRIS, analyze trends, and address compliance exceptions.
  • Deliver Operational Excellence: Manage BAU cases, ensuring timely escalation and resolution of incidents. Review Name Screening and transactions screening sanctions alerts and contribute to the continuous improvement of compliance processes. Assess and review customers’ exposure to sanctions.

 

You should apply if you have:

  • A Master’s degree in Compliance, Law, Economics, Crime Prevention, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in sanctions, regulatory compliance, or audit within a major bank or financial institution.
  • A strong understanding of FR/UK/EU/UN/US sanctions regimes and relevant legislation (e.g., ACPR, FCA, OFAC).
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, open communication style, and a collaborative approach.
  • High level of autonomy, initiative, and organisational rigour.

Bonus points for:

  • Proficiency in French (verbal and written).
  • Advanced Excel skills (macros, VBA, data analysis).
  • Ability to work under pressure, make sound decisions quickly, and manage competing priorities.
