Job description

In compliance with applicable laws, HSBC is committed to employing only those who are authorized to work in the US. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. as HSBC will not engage in immigration sponsorship for this position.

Our purpose – Opening up a world of opportunity – explains why we exist. Here at HSBC we use our unique expertise, capabilities, breadth and perspectives to open up new kinds of opportunity for our more than 40 million customers. We’re bringing together the people, ideas and capital that nurture progress and growth, helping to create a better world – for our customers, our people, our investors, our communities and the planet we all share.

This role sits at the intersection of solution architecture, technical implementation, and project delivery for HSBC’s client connectivity channels. You’ll design and deliver technically robust, secure, and scalable connectivity solutions for strategic corporate clients, leading complex onboarding and change initiatives across HSBCnet, APIs, SWIFT connectivity, and Host-to-Host (H2H)/file-based connectivity.

You’ll run technical discovery and client workshops, convert business outcomes into technical designs, define testing and cutover approaches (including ISO 20022 formats and SWIFT migration considerations), and then drive end-to-end execution—removing blockers across client teams, Product, IT, Client Service and Coverage/Sales. The goal: faster time-to-revenue, high-quality implementations, and smooth client experience.

As our Sr Project Manager, Client Connectivity-Innovation Banking, you will:

  • Own the end-to-end technical approach for client connectivity implementations, including architecture decisions, sequencing, and technical artefacts
  • Lead technical client workshops to document current-state processes and define target-state automation across:
    • Accounts Payable, Receivables, Treasury, Payroll
    • Bank statements and technical reconciliation
  • Design connectivity solutions across:
    • APIs, SWIFT connectivity (connected banking patterns, security considerations, technical trade-offs)
    • H2H/file-based connectivity (format management, transmission patterns, operational controls) and HSBCnet channel alignment as required
  • Translate client requirements into clear technical deliverables (data mapping, message specifications, control points, exception handling)
  • Document agreed solutions clearly, including statements of work, technical scope, assumptions, dependencies, and controls
  • Lead practical implementation of ISO 20022 for payments and reporting message formats, including mapping, validation, and exception handling
  • Ensure solution designs account for industry evolution, including SWIFT MT to MX migration impacts and de-risking plans for corporate clients
  • Support testing of payment and receivables files in industry-accepted formats, coordinating across global stakeholders where required
  • Lead end-to-end delivery: planning, execution and cutover, with a strong emphasis on technical risk control
  • Partner closely with Project Management disciplines, while personally driving: Technical workstream governance, checkpoints, testing strategy, cutover planning along with critical care for customers post go live
  • Identify technical blockers (format issues, mapping gaps, environment constraints) and drive resolution to protect timelines and outcomes
  • Monitor post-launch connectivity performance and stability; identify optimization opportunities and implement continuous improvements
  • Provide pre-mandate technical support for RFI/RFP responses and solution proposals; act as a consultative partner to Coverage/Sales
  • Serve as liaison across Client Service, Sales/Coverage, Product and IT, aligning global/regional/country stakeholders on a single delivery path
  • Act as a trusted advisor to client technology and treasury stakeholders—confidently leading workshops and senior stakeholder discussions

You´ll likely have the following skills to succeed in this role:

  • Deep experience in client-facing solutioning and technical delivery: solution architecture, implementation, or technical consulting within banking/payments/treasury/fintech
  • Hands-on delivery of connectivity implementations using H2H/file-based and/or API-based technical; able to clearly explain trade-offs and fit-for-purpose recommendations
  • Strong working knowledge of payments and connectivity, including:
    • ACH, wires, real-time/instant payments
    • ISO 20022 standards and real delivery experience (mapping/testing/validation)
    • SWIFT connectivity and ability to discuss MT→MX migration impacts
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex workstreams and act as an escalation point, with strong stakeholder influence across business and technology teams
  • Excellent communication skills—able to translate between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders without losing accuracy
  • Familiarity with client platforms and technical patterns:
    • ERPs: SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics
    • TMS awareness: Kyriba, GTreasury, FIS Quantum, Integrity
  • Experience supporting global or multi-country client rollouts; comfort operating in multicultural teams and time zones
  • Working knowledge of treasury operating models, centralization/standardization initiatives, and change management practices
  • Comfortable with structured delivery and transparency via tools such as JIRA, MS Project, Confluence (or equivalents)
  • Project management certification (PMP/Prince2/Agile) is advantageous but not required—what matters is disciplined delivery and predictable outcomes
