The Mortgage Quality Control Credit Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day delivery of US Mortgage Quality Control through pre-funding and post-closing credit reviews. This role manages a team of Quality Control (QC) reviewers, ensures consistent defect identification and grading, drives root-cause remediation with business partners, and provides clear reporting and escalation to reduce repurchase exposure and improve customer outcomes.

As our Mortgage Quality Control Credit Manager, you will:

  • Deliver the QC review plan (coverage, timeliness, and quality targets) across pre-funding and post-closing credit reviews
  • Oversee and review complex mortgage files (income/asset, employment, credit/liabilities, DTI/LTV, conditions, exceptions/overrides, occupancy indicators)
  • Ensure adherence to internal credit policy and applicable investor/agency guidance for the product set
  • Apply consistent defect grading (significant/moderate/minor) and produce clear, evidence-based findings and narratives
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action planning with Mortgage Fulfillment and Originations teams; track actions to closure and validate effectiveness
  • Manage and develop a team: workload planning, coaching, performance management, and calibration sessions to ensure consistent outcomes
  • Analyze and report QC results (defect rates, severity, trends, and repeat findings) and translate them into clear actions—targeted coaching, process fixes, and control enhancements—shared through regular governance updates

You´ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

  • Strong mortgage credit judgement and underwriting expertise (US retail; pre-funding and post-closing)
  • Deep attention to detail with consistent, defensible defect identification and grading
  • Clear, concise written communication (findings, narratives, root cause, corrective actions)
  • Strong verbal communication and stakeholder management; able to challenge constructively
  • People leadership: coaching, performance management, and team calibration
  • Root-cause analysis and continuous improvement mindset (process, policy, controls)
  • Data and reporting capability
  • Strong organization and prioritization; able to manage multiple deadlines and SLAs
  • High integrity and sound judgement when handling sensitive issues (e.g., potential fraud, compliance risk)
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach across Underwriting, Processing, Closing, Compliance, and Risk

As an HSBC employee, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities to ensure you have the right skills for today and tomorrow. We offer a competitive pay and benefits package including a robust Wellness Hub, all in a welcoming and inclusive work environment. You will be empowered to drive HSBC’s engagement with the communities we serve through an industry-leading volunteerism policy, a generous matching gift program, and a comprehensive program of immersive Sustainability and Climate Change Initiatives. You’ll want to join our Employee Resource Groups as they play a central part in life at HSBC, including the development of our employees and networking inside and outside of HSBC. We value difference. We succeed together. We take responsibility. We get it done. And we want you to help us build the bank of the future!

Your final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and several variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.
