We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Strategic Cost Manager, UK COO - CIO.



This is a role in HSBC UK Finance that will support the Cost management and analytics underpinning the Bank’s performance and strategy, primarily focused on the cost base of the UK COO (Chief Operating Office) and CIO (Chief Information Office), but you may be required to engage on common cost stream themes and initiatives within the Strategic Cost Management (SCM) team. Cost discipline is a key pillar of the Group’s performance and its share price, featuring persistently in market commentaries. 



In this role, you will:


  • Support the formulation of quarterly forecasts of the cost base (monthly light reviews), identifying and quantifying Risks and Opportunities, and analysing the comparisons of forecasts to Budgets and historical comparatives.
  • Participate in presentations to stakeholders of the results, actuals and the forecasted figures.
  • Support, where applicable with the transparency and insight into external disclosures as they relate to the respective cost bases.
  • Model ‘what if’ financial outcomes of productivity or investment proposals - Supporting the investment case analysis, decision-making and system change initiatives, both in support of decisions and post factor review of their effectiveness.
  • Navigate and influence the initiatives to identify and deliver sustainable productivity gains in the cost base, also known as value hunting.



To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:


  • Demonstrable strategic cost management experience is essential.
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CA, CIMA or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
  • Forecasting, budgeting and financial analysis experience.
  • Experience and insight into external disclosures (e.g., transparency relating to the respective cost bases).
  • Collaborative, engaging, credible and methodical; being able to bring the numbers, policy, strategy, initiatives and narrative to life (e.g., presenting management information and the cost drivers to a wide range of stakeholders/ senior management).
  • Experience of building and maintaining strong relationships with senior stakeholders (all levels of seniority, businesses, and geographies).

 


The base location for this role will be Birmingham and with a hybrid working pattern.
