We are currently seeking an individual to join the team as Senior Tax Manager Corporate Tax.

This is an opportunity to operate at a senior level within an experienced and supportive tax team, but without any direct reports.

This role combines a mixture of compliance, advisory and project work.

Due to the size and complexity of the HSBC group there are always new projects and requirements to get involved on making the role varied and challenging.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you’ll:

  • Oversee UK corporate tax compliance for a portfolio of companies, partnering with the outsourced provider on returns and tax disclosures for statutory accounts
  • Manage external audit interactions for tax matters within the financial statements
  • Support HMRC engagement by attending meetings and helping manage correspondence (enquiries, notices, group returns, lists and payment allocations)
  • Monitor UK Uncertain Tax Positions and support with processing of adjustments agreed with HMRC
  • Provide specialist support on share-based payments and UK tax incentives (capital allowances, R&D, patents), plus international queries (e.g, WHT rates, residence certificates)
  • Support transactions and restructurings: provide tax input and commentary for UK acquisitions/disposals/intragroup transfers/wind-ups and provide Tax review for strategic transactions outside the UK

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Extensive experience of UK corporate tax either as Chartered Tax Adviser or qualified by experience
  • Experience performing legislative analysis, identifying potential risk areas, analysing relevant developments in tax law and accurately documenting approaches taken
  • Qualified accountant with IFRS tax accounting knowledge, in particular application of IAS 12 Income Taxes or qualified by experience
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to explain complex issues succinctly to people who are not tax experts
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence within a team and to manage competing deliverables within tight timelines
  • Experience in Financial Services Tax would be advantageous
