Senior Financial Control Manager - WPB

We're currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Financial Control Manager - WPB.

In this role, you’ll take end-to-end ownership of the Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB) trial balance and the integrity of the ledger close across the full trial balance for HSBC UK giving you real scale, complexity, and visibility. You’ll work with significant autonomy and regular exposure to senior management, while sharpening your technical IFRS application and commercial judgement over key accounting decisions. You’ll also influence outcomes through wide stakeholder partnership (Business Finance, Accounting Policy, Tax, Financial Reporting, external audit and the wider Finance community), lead issue escalation and governance in a “no surprises” control culture, and help shape change as systems and processes evolve. On top of that, you’ll directly manage two Birmingham colleagues and provide directional support to the India team, giving you a strong mix of leadership, control stewardship, and hands-on problem solving in a critical financial control function.

In this role you'll:

• Own end-to-end oversight of the WPB trial balance, ensuring integrity of the ledger close process across the full trial balance for HSBC UK
• Guide Finance Operations to ensure accounting completeness as per IFRS, strong controls, and smooth ledger close (no errors/delays) with the right quality of review and support
• Lead issue management: escalate issues early, follow the correct governance, and ensure key management judgements are controlled with appropriate integrity and oversight
• Conduct proactive reviews of business products, aligning accounting assessment with business terms and conditions
• Manage and develop the team with direct line management of two colleagues in Birmingham plus directional support to the India Finance centre team, and act as a technical subject-matter expert for wider finance
• Partner and influence across stakeholders and change: relationship-manage senior stakeholders (Business Finance, Accounting Policy/Tax/Financial Reporting, External audit), act as HSBC intercompany SPOC for account reconciliations, and support change/process improvement

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

• Demonstrable experience working within a Bank
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
• Through knowledge and experience of a full range of WPB banking products
• IFRS experience is essential
• Demonstrable financial reporting and financial accounting experience is essential
• Demonstrable experience of motivating, engaging and leading a team
• Experience of building, influencing, and maintaining strong relationships with senior stakeholders (all levels of seniority, businesses, and geographies)
