We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Senior Financial Control Manager, CMB & CIB.


The key attraction of this role within the Financial Accounting team at HSBC UK Bank plc is its scale and complexity, which provides a significant opportunity for professional development. The role offers exposure to senior management and allows the individual to develop a broad range of skills, including collaboration, financial analysis, influencing skills, and technical application of IFRS. Additionally, the role involves primary responsibility for Financial Control related to the CMB (Commercial Banking) and CIB (Corporate and Institutional Banking) Businesses, ensuring the integrity of the Ledger Close Process across the full Trial Balance. 


In this role, you will:


  • Financial Oversight: Ensure the integrity of the Ledger Close Process and provide full oversight of the Trial Balance for the CMB (Commercial Banking) and CIB (Corporate and Institutional Banking) Businesses.
  • Guidance and Issue Management: Provide guidance to Finance Operations to ensure completeness and integrity of accounting and controls, and manage issue escalation with proper governance.
  • Stakeholder and Relationship Management: Maintain relationships with senior stakeholders and act as a key contact for GAP/ Tax/ Financial Reporting and other business functions for queries and support.
  • Technical and Proactive Support: Offer technical support to the wider SME population and conduct proactive reviews on current products and accounting back to business terms and conditions.
  • Change Management Support: Support change management initiatives across the business and finance, ensuring smooth transitions and adaptations to new processes.



To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:


  • Qualified Accountant: ACA, CA, ACCA, CFA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • People Management: Experience of navigating, collaborating and motivating a team.
  • Financial Reporting Experience: Solid experience in financial control, reporting, and accounting experience within a complex and dynamic Financial Services environment is crucial.
  • Banking Products Accounting: A thorough understanding of accounting for a wide range of banking products is essential (Retail and Commercial Banking products).
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS): An essential understanding of IFRS (specifically IFRS 9 and IFRS 15) is essential.
  • Accounting Standards Interpretation: Experience in interpreting accounting standards or reporting requirements is necessary.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management: The ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders of different seniority and geographical locations is crucial.
  • Change Project Involvement: Experience in managing or being involved in change projects is beneficial.
  • IT Subsystems Knowledge: Knowledge of the general ledger system within a Financial Services environment.



The base location for this role will be Birmingham and with a hybrid working pattern.
