Job description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join the team as a Senior Credit Risk Manager.

You’ll help support millions of individuals, families, business owners, investors and entrepreneurs worldwide. You’ll be part of a team that provides everyday banking and borrowing—like current accounts, credit cards, personal loans and mortgages—alongside savings, investments, insurance and wealth management. And if your customers’ needs are more complex, you’ll work with specialist relationship managers to deliver bespoke support, including for high net worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients.

You’ll also play a critical role in supporting, challenging and advising the business. You’ll help set policy, monitor risk profiles, and spot and manage emerging risk and compliance issues early. You’ll also help create a culture where people speak up and do the right thing—protecting customers, HSBC, and the integrity of the financial markets. We’re already recognised as a leader, and with you on board, we’ll keep raising the bar as the world changes.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Own credit risk requirements across a portfolio of projects designed to simplify the customer journey—helping our Secured business grow safely and sustainably
  • Map end-to-end customer touchpoints and streamline them, using technology and data to deliver the same (or better) outcomes faster and more efficiently
  • Lead the development of UK Secured Credit, Property and Climate Risk policy—ensuring regulatory and internal compliance while driving strong customer outcomes
  • Partner closely with Global Risk teams to embed guidelines and procedures, and bring in best-practice approaches where they’ll make the biggest difference
  • Build and enhance MI and reporting that turns data into clear, actionable insight for decision-makers

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Have strong mortgage credit risk experience, operating at Senior Manager level (or equivalent) with the confidence to lead, challenge and influence
  • Ability to optimise customer journeys end-to-end while keeping risk well controlled and outcomes fair
  • You’re innovative and commercially minded, keen to apply your skills in an ambitious mortgage lender that’s focused on safe, sustainable growth
  • Experience of partnering with third parties to bring in new data and technologies that streamline journeys and improve decisioning
  • Comfortable coding in Python or SAS to support analysis, automation and insight

This role is based in Birmingham, Sheffield or Leeds.
