We are currently seeking several experienced individuals to join this team in the role of Senior Business Finance Partner, Corporate Banking UK within either the Product Finance or the Customer Segment Finance teams. Part of one Corporate Banking UK Finance team reporting to the CFO, the two teams work closely together under their respective Heads to drive good outcomes. The Product Finance team focusses on partnering directly with the corporate business product teams including corporate lending, customer payments and liquidity management, capital finance, and treasury management.
The Customer Segment team focusses on partnering with the business teams focused on servicing specific segments of the corporate portfolio, from small businesses right up to large internationally focused clients based in the UK.
Whilst the Product Finance team will drive a specific focus on product pricing, profitability and efficiency, modelling financial forecasts, capital consumption and returns, and investment into product capability and servicing; the Customer Segment team will focus on business investment into specific portfolios, analysing portfolio returns, determining optimal capital allocation across portfolios, analysing client level returns, and setting and assessment targets that drive better collaboration and international connectivity.
As an overview of the business that the team supports, Corporate Banking UK has c700k customers from SME up to Large Corporates, spanning typical corporate products and services permitted by the ringfencing rules. Corporate Banking UK generates strong returns and as part of the UK business is a meaningful contributor to the HSBC Group results and value. The UK Business is now one of HSBC Group’s four primary operating segments - UK (including Corporate Banking and Retail Banking UK); Hong Kong; Corporate & Institutional Banking globally; International Wealth & Premier Banking globally outside of the UK and Hong Kong, and is a destination of growth and investment.
In this role, you will:
- The role of Senior Business Finance Partner, Corporate Banking UK has a single reporting line to either the Head of Customer Segment Finance or Head of Product Finance, Corporate Banking UK. Both Heads report directly to the CFO, Corporate Banking UK.
- Collaborating with other peers in the team you will focus on partnering with the UK Corporate Banking Executive team leaders within HSBC UK (the ringfenced bank) to grow the business competitively whilst delivering sustainable target returns. You will also partner with colleagues in the rest of the Finance department as well as Wholesale Risk and Infrastructure support as needed to support the targeted business outcomes. You will also collaborate with colleagues in the Finance Operations team based in India that support the reporting and analysis landscape.
- This part of the Corporate Banking Finance team focusses on the segment returns, including utilising financial and non-financial data and key metrics to assess performance of segment returns, identifying opportunities to enhance returns including through re-investment / re-allocations, modelling investment cases, assessing forecasting outcomes, and playing key roles in the annual planning cycle. As such, you will be engaged with colleagues assessing product returns, those conducting stress testing modelling, and those delivering external financial and regulatory reporting outcomes.
- You will partner with the Corporate Banking segment heads and their key leads on performance, balance sheet and capital deployment and growth opportunity matters and investment cases.
- You may also be tasked with specific segment responsibility, or be asked to work to a flexible portfolio of Corporate Banking portfolio priorities that cut across segments or that focus on one segment for a limited timeframe to deliver a given key priority.

- The HSBC UK Finance department encompasses Treasury, Financial Control & Tax, Business Partnering for Corporate banking (this particular team), Business Partnering for Retail Banking, Financial Planning & Analysis, Strategic Cost Management, and Change Delivery; including 4 brands across UK locations.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Demonstrable experience working within a Corporate Bank in a role that focusses on analysing performance and efficiency, and assessing investment proposals to improve financial returns.
- Corporate banking knowledge and experience of the key products and services, such as corporate lending (term loans, overdrafts, trade finance, equipment finance), payments and liquidity management (deposit gathering, corporate cards), as well as capital finance and treasury management (fx, rates).
- Methodical Financial Modelling of p&l forecasts, multi-year financial plans, investment case scenario financials building, and engaging with stress testing teams on how they model stress scenario outcomes.
- Demonstrable experience as a credible and engaging business partner within a Finance function supporting senior business leaders in a corporate bank to improve financial decision making through the financial analysis and advice provided, bringing the numbers to life in the context of an operating corporate franchise.
- Experience of building and maintaining strong relationships with senior stakeholders (all levels of seniority, businesses and diversity of forums).
The base location for this role will be Birmingham and with a hybrid working pattern.
