The UK Sector team comprises sub-teams of industry experts covering agrifoods, charities, sustainability, infrastructure, professional and business services, Education, retail & leisure, technology, and franchise. Each team manages their respective national sector strategy, working closely with the various UK Commercial Banking businesses (Large Corporate & Private Equity Backed Corporates, Mid Markets and SME & International Teams), Commercial Banking  UK product partners and Structured Finance teams to support business development and growth, sector planning, content and contacts and risk management and external advisory and trade body engagement.

   

The teams support across all products and corporate structures, in conjunction with product partners provide coverage for HSBC UK clients and their ecosystem and, where possible, the wider global network including the global sector proposition.  

 

We are currently seeking a self-motivated, experienced individual to join the team in the role of Professional & Business Services Sector Director based in North/Midlands

 

Your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

 

  • Driving business development, sector planning and deal execution, taking the lead on transactions from a sector perspective.
  • Being proactive in identifying new market and product opportunities and assist the Sector Head in development and delivery.
  • Lead client conversations, including preparing and delivering materials, and supporting dialogue with existing and new clients, key business introducers (e.g. debt advisers, trade bodies) and financial sponsors. The successful candidate will regularly attend and lead meetings with clients and other external stakeholders.
  • Driving origination and execution of lending and product partner transactions to existing and new clients, including drafting support comments and opining on ‘what good looks like’.
  • Be a recognized subject matter expert for structured financings in the sector, offering support and guidance on structure and credit for relationship managers. Ensuring lending policy is aligned to sector specific characteristics and requirements.
  • Proactive and frequent involvement in the external marketplace, acting as a senior ambassador for HSBC including networking with professionals, clients, and prospective clients
  • Lead, inspire and motivate colleagues to ensure a seamless sector coverage proposition is delivered

 

 The ideal candidate for this role will have:

 

  • An interest in the latest developments in the Professional & Business Services sector and an understanding of the marketplace and the competition to identify opportunities to establish competitive advantage for HSBC is essential.
  • Leadership skills would be advantageous, with the ability to motivate, inspire and develop people as well as deputising for the Head of Professional and Business Services
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple workstreams and competing deadlines, with excellent time management, planning and organisation skills is essential.
  • Ability to leading and implement new projects across teams; and the national CMB network, taking initiative to seek answers and gain views/expertise from a variety of stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to analyse complex information and explain it in a clear, concise and accurate way is a must.
  • Robust understanding of commercial lending, risk assessment, cashflows, working capital and cashflow lending is essential.
  • Good level of business acumen and commercial awareness, including economic, cultural, procedural, and regulatory issues

 

This is a hybrid role that can be based at any UK Commercial Centre, but specifically Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham and will focus on building opportunities in the North & Midlands in the UK.  There will be a requirement to attend client meetings on a weekly basis and visit our London offices on regular basis.

Qualifications

This role is subject to the requirements of Certification Regime, set out by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Candidates must either have attained the CISI Level 3 Certificate in Corporate Finance, or should be committed to completing this qualification within 1 year of being in role.
