Project Manager
Birmingham, GB, B1 1HQ
Job description
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Project Manager.
You’ll sit within our Transformation Services team, working across Lines of Business and Functions to deliver high-profile change that supports the Group Strategy and makes change a sustainable competitive advantage. You’ll manage projects (or defined workstreams) end-to-end from initiation through closure, ensuring outcomes are delivered on time and on budget using Waterfall, Agile or hybrid approaches. You’ll bring an innovation mindset by proposing ideas, and testing and refining them with stakeholders, and identifying more efficient ways of working to improve delivery and outcomes.
As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
In this role you will:
- Create and maintain delivery plans (milestones, dependencies, critical paths where applicable) and delivery cadence
- Run day-to-day governance: RAID, actions, decisions, status reporting, working groups and SteerCo support
- Manage scope changes through agreed control processes; drive issue resolution and escalate with options and impacts
- Support/lead discovery to clarify problem statements, scope boundaries, stakeholders, assumptions and success measures
- Elicit, analyse and document requirements (functional/non-functional), process maps, journeys, data/MI needs and control impacts
- Translate requirements into user stories/acceptance criteria (where Agile) and maintain traceability to outcomes
- Support business validation and UAT readiness, including test planning inputs, defect triage and signoffs
- Conduct current-state assessments and root-cause analysis to identify improvements, developing and presenting options with clear people/process/technology impacts (including dependencies, risks and benefits), support target operating model elements (processes, roles, controls, MI and handoffs), and facilitate workshops to enable stakeholder decision-making and prioritisation
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Proven project/workstream delivery experience from initiation to closure using Waterfall/Agile/Hybrid methods is mandatory
- Experience delivering change in a structured project environment (financial services or regulated industry preferred).
- Strong planning and organisation skills; with the ability to manage dependencies and multiple priorities
- Able to demonstrate a strong governance and control mindset through disciplined documentation, clear reporting, and proactive risk management
- Strong communication and facilitation skills; able to work across diverse teams and levels.
- Analytical capabilities, process mapping, requirements definition, and translating insight into practical actions
- Delivery experience of non-technical AI solutions
