Product Manager - Scheme Management
Birmingham, GB, B1 1HQ
Job description
If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Product Manager – Scheme Management (Unsecured Lending).
This is a great opportunity to take your card and product experience in a new direction, build your network, and help shape how we work with Visa and Mastercard across our UK Retail Transactional Banking (RTB) card portfolios.
You’ll join the Unsecured Lending Planning & Performance team, with a key role in the strategic and day-to-day management of scheme activity — making sure we stay on top of change, maximise value from scheme investment, and keep customers and the bank protected. If you want a role where you’ll be close to the action, shaping scheme strategy and making investment work harder for customers and HSBC, this one’s worth a look.
As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution
This is a hybrid working role with the base location as Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield or Chester.
In this role you will:
- Be the RTB product lead for our Visa and Mastercard relationships, escalating quickly when risks or customer impacts appear
- Track and assess scheme bulletins/announcements (pricing, fees, commercials), and make sure actions land with the right teams
- Manage scheme investment funds (c.$25m annually), focusing on smart allocation and measurable outcomes
- Own the end-to-end investment fund process: requests, approvals, delivery tracking, and benefits realisation
- Oversee claims processing and reconciliation, staying aligned to accounting guidance and regulatory expectations
- Run scheme governance for RBW, including monthly “state of the nation” reporting and top priorities
- Partner closely with global teams, RTB colleagues, Finance, and external stakeholders (Visa/Mastercard)
- Keep a firm grip on change, impact, compliance, and controls across scheme activity
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Experience in cards (credit/debit) and/or product management, ideally with scheme exposure (essential)
- Strong analytical skills — comfortable turning large datasets into clear insights and actions
- Solid financial acumen (e.g., commercials, claims reconciliation, high-level P&L thinking) (essential)
- Confidence managing multiple workstreams and disciplines at pace, without dropping the details
- Strong risk and control mindset, with a practical approach to compliance and governance
- Proven stakeholder management skills, including working with third parties/external partners
- A track record of improving processes and influencing others to land better outcomes
